So today I get done doing the new brakes, rotors, and master cylinder and get in to test drive and it wont crank. Battery was dead, so I charged. Now I turn key and all the lights and everything come on, but the starter dosent turn. No noises or clicking sounds either! I just bought the car, its a project, and havent even driven besides the few block trip home. Any ideas? HELP!! Could it possibly be the old alarm system in it screwed up?

Could be an anti-theft chip although if it started to go somewhere once its probably not the chip. Starter, solenoid, loose wire? I hate electrical problems!!

Try tapping reasonably hard on the body of the starter.

About 6-8 good raps.

Then come back up for air and see if it cranks.

If it doesn't next test would be to put a voltmeter on the purple wire at the starter to a good ground.

Use an insulated alligator clip on the purple wire at the starter with a long wire so you can read the meter and crank the car over safely at the same time, make that try to crank the car over at the same time.

Two relatively quick tests.

It could be the old alarm system or the factory alarm system if so equipped. :(

Tests are still valid however so do them.

I had the same symptoms a few years ago. I charged the battery...no change. I even replaced the starter...no change.

Did all kinds of other tests and tracing. I finally thought I'd try a different battery...it started.

The battery had a dead cell that didn't show up during testing!

Sometimes the simplist fix does it. yup

Does the car have an alarm with a keyless remote?? My car does the same thing if you try to start the car without first unlocking the car with the remote.

sounds like your solenoid took a crap on you. Do the lights dim when you go into start mode? If not, you're not pulling any current.
I had the same thing happen to me when I installed my scanmaster. The started decided to die right then so I couldn't play with the lights and buttons.

Had an old Ferd that did that to me. Cept. It would start when charged by a battery charger. Not from another vehicle. Battery was sulfated.
Put a new battery in it and it started up.
Bout 6 months later. the engine threw a rod. But... That's a different story.

I assume you couldn't spare the 15 minutes of time to do my tests first? frown

Why did the battery go dead if it was new?Anyway,if the car has an aftermarket alarm in it,most of them go into a default mode when they lose power and then get reconnected.Check that maybe? dunno
