What should the engine temp be if the outside temps are 70s-80s?
Seems like my car runs 182-184 in 90s-100s or the 70s-80s.
2) I got a EGT guage. It has the probe. How is the probed attached to DP? Drilled then JB Weld or is there a fitting that can be used.
Sidenote for JB Weld users. The guy lives in East Texas. Y'all out to see the house you helped this guy buy!

Sounds like your car has a 180 deg thermostat in it.

Most of the egt probes are held in place with a hose clamp with a hole drilled thru it for the wire to emerge....just a radiator worm screw hose clamp.

Unless my eyes are failing me when I pulled it, it had 160 stamped on it.
Guess I will look again.
That is the hardest thermostat I have ever changed.

It may be that your radiator is just tired and that is what it will cool to. After a few years, the quality of the bond between the fins and the tubes deteriorates and the efficiency drops even when the tubes are clean.

I went to a new larger core radiator this summer, my temps can't get over 160 now. Even with a 160 stat last summer the hovered at 170-180.

The EGT can replace your O2 if you have an open loop ship. If not you should weld another boss near the O2 sensor for the EGT.
