I have dual DEI brand 30 amp relays. 30a fuses. Never blown one, but that can be different from car to car.

I've got one of the 92 Lincoln Mark VIII fans (the early Mark VIII fans were higher flow than the later) around here that I ran on my mustang and I'm here to tell you, NOTHING 12 volt powered out flows it. You can stand at the back of the car and it feels like there is a storm gale coming up....Amazing. NOW, as of yet, I have not been able to fit it into the Regal. It is simply to big. The fan blade itself is 19" and then there is the shroud which has already been trimmed to the bare minimum. It is taller than the radiator and I can't conceive (not possible) how to make it work on my Regal.
I wish I could

The VIII fans are indeed awesome, but as you stated next to impossible to get in the regal. On top of that they are amp hogs, Ive seen info quoting they will pull 22 amps at startup. eek!

Watching Horsepower TV today, they gave another approximation similar to Paul's above except they suggested one amp per one inch of diameter and twice that on start up.

:)

It's been a couple of years since I put a meter on mine to check draw...think it was on a factory unit and it seemed to pull a bit less than 20 amps as I recall while running..

I used a fan from a 1.9 liter Tracer (used for my Mazda conversion). Same as the escort, same as the Taurus fan. The Taurus fan requires a 40amp relay and was designed to cool small islands. The shrouding is plentiful and square. Should fit in the Buick nicely. It also has an internal High, Low without that silly resistor. Don't know if it's the highest CFM bar none, but for $40 from any junk yard it's worth a shot. I will tell you that it's obvious that it moves much more air than the Buick OEM fan. thumb_up

Orlando, what model years on that Taurus fan? Late 80's/early 90's?

I had my car out on saturday(very hot and humid)I have the Ramchargers set up with a spare rear window defogger button on as a timer for cooldown for the track between passes.I hit the button after a pass and with the key off the fan stays on for 4 to 6 minutes to cool the car down. Before on hot humid days and in stopped trafic it would hit 204 with the ac on.Now 180 to 184 beating on it(light to light) and then stopping at the lights. On the highway steady 164 with ac on.Best thing I bought this summer!

Well my fans showed up, but they don't fit as planned, i am trimming them to fit, and ill have pics up for everyone. Its a tight fit, and the fans claimed to be 13"each , but they are only 11". The derale dual fans , looks like are made from tripac, and sound like a small jet when cranked on, taking a small 49 amps!!Interesting these fans are rated by derale to be 4000 cfm, but on the tripac website they are rated 2560 cfm.

However, look at the ratings carefully. The spal dual 11"is rated at 2760 cfm, but when you put some load in front of it the flow goes down to at 860 cfm @1.0 pressure drop, which is like having a front mount IC. The tripac dual set up flows [email protected] pressure drop, almost double the cfm!

I have the Flex-A-Lite dual 12" fans got the from Jeg's part number 400-220, $195.99. Water temp never goes over 190* with A/C in traffic.(here in Daytona Beach Fla.) Fit like a glove in my radiator and used the stock resistor for speed control. CFM rating is 2500. Without all the tech stuff about CFM's all I can say is "they work for me"...LOL...

Aftermarket companys rate their fans at no load to give the highest possible CFM number for advertising. We I sent the fan out at Ramchargers for testing they did it at MAX load. The no load number would be much higher but meaningless. IMO there is NO better fan for the money that those. As long as you do not mind a little fab work on install. I will be stocking them in a week or so. Ramchargers has them all the time.

So how do we order this these days? I may just go this route. Does anyone make the brackets and wiring to make it a direct install?

I am looking for heavy duty relays, since i have done some tests, and each fan is taking about 80 amps on start up, i think its going to fry the small relays. Here's the pic of the install.
