Ok, speedo cable stopped working and the VSS code came on. I'm assuming that's a direct coorelation correct?

Also, car doesn't want to enter OD. Any coorelation there or a coincidence?

My guess would be the plastic govenor gear which also doubles as the speedo drive gear. I would think if it was the gear than all of your shifts would be screwed up. Maybe as simple as dropping the pan and pulling the govenor to confirm its condition.

Thanks for the reply. I had the insturment cluster removed and I wonder if me not getting the cable in all the way into the cluster could've caused the problem?

Yep.
It's easy to miss, or not get it fully seated.
