I've never had a "slipping" tranny before. My 87 GN has 92K, all stock with basic mods, never boosted above 17-18psi and hardly ever raced, never at the track or with slicks. A couple weeks ago it started shifting odd, but only from 2-3rd I think. It's like it shifts into neutral and then kicks back in. It will pull hard at wot, but at partial throttle it will do this between 2-3, starting around 2-3000 rpm and kicks back in. I tore it apart yesterday and changed the filter and fluid. Everything looked great in the tranny and it has been full of fluid and the filter didn't look bad at all. Do I have a slipping tranny? How much is a new tranny? I've heard it's cheaper to get a new one. Also I am unable to manually shift the car into 1st gear to (I never do, but tried yesterday). Thanks!

Justin

Sounds like a 2-3 flare.Have you played with the TV cable lately? You *may* get away with a valve body rebuild, but,I suspect it might just be time for a decent total rebuild.I think Bruce Toelle posted an answer to this on the other board in the trans tech section.

I haven't ever touched the TV cable. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks Radius!

Hmmm, might have to try that myself.

Mine hasn't been touched in 15 years.

Yeah, the cable I mean dammit.
