Lot's of people have reported quality control problems with the ATR pipe...mainly a wastegate that sticks after a short usage.

I think most that use the external gates weld them on the cross over pipe. I have not seen a TH pipe that is built deliberately for an external gate but I have not seen everything.

We exclusively sell, install, and use the THDP. Teamed with a properly working and tweaked stock type actuator, you can quickly build and hold rock steady boost, at any level and with just about any sized turbo. However, certain tips and simple mods must be implimented to attain this.
External wastegates also work just fine and also enable quick spooling and steady boost control. But some of the downsides are the additional higher cost and continuous annoying exhaust noise each time it is activated.
With todays new technology and the effectivness of the new stock OEM style products, now available, manufacturing and controlling boost is now simple and inexpensive.

If you go here

and scroll down to the third and fourth pictures, you will see the alternative to the integral wastegate. The reason it is laying beside by my wheel instead of being on my car is for precisely the reasons Ron gave above. I use a THDP with the integral wastegate and have never had problems with controlling boost. Thre is an added benefit in that it does not have to be rebuilt periodically either.

Inside the Racegate is a teflon seal that should be replaced at least every year.

You can ask John Spina what happened to Venom when this seal failed.

It's also prudent to clean and lube the shaft and valve seat surfaces ( with a form of penetrating oil, not regular oil or grease) periodically as they can seize or become sluggish in operation from rust, carbon, or foreign debris.

Ron, shouldn't your signature mention your floor jack?
Whoa! Ormand, you have just committed the ultimate faux pas (thats four feet on Zap's dog). It is Rich's racing team that has the floor jack in the signature.

We are lucky that Ron has not made his permanent banner ad into a flashing neon sign that places eternal cookies on our machines and cannot be erased!
