‘87 GN- mostly stock, just fuel pump, hot wire, 42 injectors, chip, 2.5 exhaust. Original turbo, 85k miles.

always a little smoke-now a lot! Plugs look clean (didn’t pull them all) doesn’t appear to have blow by out valve covers, cleaned/checked PVC, intake side of turbo clean, exhaust side and down pipe have film of oil.Oil drain back tube appears open/ clear. Vanes look good, shaft has very little/ no side to side play but about 1/16 or bit more in/out.

was about to leave for 1,000 mile trip to St Ignace car show/cruise but smoking so bad not doing that- taking old rx7 instead.

seems like turbo seal?? Don’t want to just throw parts/$ at it, though a better turbo would be 😊. Anything else to check? Options? If it is turbo rebuild or new? Would like stock appearing turbo but bit more power and low end response would be 👍🏽. Thoughts?

Did you ever replace the stock turbo bell? To eliminate the hose from the passenger valve cover to the turbo bell. That can cause oil to get into the turbo. I had to rebuild my turbo because oil from the valve cover became burnt on the turbo shaft. I even replaced the brass bearings.
