My '86 came as a peg-leg car. What's the most cost-effective route as far as adding a posi unit? I see quite a few on Ebay - will any 8.5" 28-spline 10-bolt unit work? I understand that the gears would need to be re-set, I know I can find a shop to do that and install everything.

How much would a Spool (or mini-spool) suck on a street car??? headbang Seems pretty cost-effective, or will I just break parts?

EDIT: Just found this:

How well do these work?

Thanks for any info,
Kris

A spool will remind you that it is there everytime you turn, or sometimes even just changing lanes.......

For a good posi unit, the Eaton one works well. Cotton's has them for a good price.

You don't want a spool in the street eek! For everyday driving you can get away with an Auburn posi. It's about $150 cheaper then a Eaton. If you plan on any type of racing then get the Eaton.
By the way this is the transmission section. You will get more hits in the "general tech section" wink
