I was talking to Paul (aka. Quick Toy) a few weeks ago about my car and its set-up.

1) JayC VT Chip (for propane ~100 octane)
2) 200-4R Tranny missing all pressure switches and associated wiring
3) Knock Retard (steady diet of Ultra94 & propane)

I am wondering if 1 + 2 = 3?

Paul, was saying that the chip may be defaulting into 4th gear timing and load tables as the ECM isn't getting any other information from the tranny.

When I had JayC burn the chip, and I told him that everything was missing inside the tranny, he said not to worry about it and that it didn't matter.

I respect both of these guys... However, I am getting conflicting information and my car is still knocking. Yes, even with the propane. :p

Where should I be looking for a solution? dunno help

Don't know anything about trannies and chip timing, but if you could post the entire combo. and when and how the KR is happening perhaps we can get a clue. :)

How much boost, what timing is in the chip, what speed the KR is happening.

Direct Scan logs perhaps?

Fuel pressure?

Just the facts. yup

If it's in another thread I missed it. wink

In addition to salvage's questions...
How are you controlling your boost?
How are you locking up your converter, and when?
What size rear tires, and diff gear ratio are you running?
How much knock are you getting, and when?
What are the O2 #'s
Is your egr hooked up?

Just to throw out the usual... Could this be false knock? Wheelspin knock? Shift knock?
Do you have a bottle heater? (It's getting cold out, and I'm wondering if the Propane is up to proper pressure for delivery?)

The 4th gear light in DS will only light up if the ECM gets the signal from the solenoid in the trans. Same thing for 3rd gear. If your trans wiring isn't hooked up then the ECM will never know. The TCC on the other hand is the opposite, since the ECM commands lockup based on MPH, Coolant Temp, LV8 and TPS.

A slight correction :)
The 3rd and 4th gear psi switches in the tranny are N/C, (normally closed) and when activated, break the circuit and reference voltage to the ecm. So if you have no wiring or switches the ECM thinks that it is in 3rd and 4th and the indicator in DS will be lit up.

Mike, you are right about the TCC, and I add that it also uses the 3rd and 4th gear lock/unlock tables for control as well.

How much boost, what timing is in the chip, what speed the KR is happening.
Boost: ~23psi (stock turbo & FMIC)
Chip Timing: It is a variable timing chip... I guess only JayC knows for sure.
KR @ Speed: ~100mph

Direct Scan logs perhaps?
I may have 1 or two TurboLink files. Will those help?

Fuel pressure?
~46psi.

How are you controlling your boost?
MBC/G-valve.

How are you locking up your converter, and when?
Manual switch & I didn't lock it up the last time out. Never got a chance... damn rain.

What size rear tires, and diff gear ratio are you running?
275/40/17 (25.7" dia IIRC) & 3.73s.

How much knock are you getting, and when?
The last good reading I got was 12.6* @ the top of 2nd.

What are the O2 #'s
The last good reading I got was 707mV @ the top of 2nd.

Is your egr hooked up?
Yes.

Just to throw out the usual... Could this be false knock? Wheelspin knock? Shift knock?
Do you have a bottle heater? (It's getting cold out, and I'm wondering if the Propane is up to proper pressure for delivery?)
I suppose it could be any of those false-KR types.
No bottle heater yet, however, it was a fresh tank.

Thanks,

With your Low hard sidewall profile tires and 3.73 gears It's safe to say you are getting massive wheel spin. This will cause false knock every time. Cheap and easy test is borrow a set of slicks or 60 series tires and try it.

Quick Toy:
Sorry Mike, I've been busy.
Send me the turbolink files.
LOL! Paul, there is no obligation here, and definitely nothing to be sorry for. :D

Do you have TL v4.0+? If not, you may want to DL'd it from Ken's site.

I'll get them out to you ASAP!

Thanks,
