Jasper Motors?

Anyone have any opinions or info on the Jasper 3.8 Turbo V6 for the Buicks? I'm a potential buyer of an `87 GN with a new Jasper motor (I believe its a crate motor), and I've heard a couple mixed things about incorrect pistons/crank. This an issue at all? Any info is appriciated...

You get a mixture of parts in them. Probably not bad for the money but I would be very nervous about turning up the boost and trying to go fast with one. I would hear it ticking away and wonder when it was going to detonate.

Well how about 12.0's? That a safe realm to reach with one of them? I'm told that they're just rebuilt Buick 3.8's w/ new parts, not sure which are new or which pistons they come with. They're supposed to be up to stock specs so they cant be that bad. Whats the weak spots?

I would not bet any of money on one of them...but some have made it okay for awhile at least.

There are no stock cranks available and no stock pistons, either....what you get is n.a. stuff as above.

The factory put stronger stuff in them to run 14s. What does that tell you?

This guy is going from board to board until he gets the answer he wants? I addressed this on GNTTYPE and Steve W. is in concert with my reply then. One thing that I did not mention is that it is standard operating procedure for Jasper to go .04 over on the bore.

Jaspers holds very good tolerances IMO but they are not using the correct components. They also have a great warranty so if you don't mind pulling the motor occassionally they will fix it a few times.

i had a jasper sengine in my 84 t-type i used to have, i never had a problem but the car was mostly stock with only minor upgrades.
I've heard of two different situations with the Jasper Engines! Bored .040 over! Using a NA crank, not a turbo one! Be careful with their engines. Good Luck! Gene
We had a customer have another shop install a RECON engine (similar to Jasper) in his '86 that he bought from Kirban. He blow a piston; they replaced it. Then he blow a gasket; they replaced it. Then the third one we installed and we offered no garranties to him. The directions to install were wrong and they insisted they were responsible if anything went wrong. His third engine did start making some funny nioses after a couple months. As mentioned before, they have good warranties but YOU have to do or pay for the labor.

Hope this helps,
