i see all you guys saying your running 11's and 12's at the track. all i've seen is 14.2's. I've got a 3" thdp, joe lubrand chip,50# injec., atr air box,2 1/2" cat back hooker exhaust system, walboro 340 pump with hot wire kit. Why am I not seeing 12's. Is it the tires? Are slicks that important? Help me please or I'm getting something else.

ET is a function of traction and HP.

What MPH are you seeing ????

Even when my car was mostly stock, except for fuel, exhaust and chip, I was spinning the tires at the line with 0psi boost.

Slicks are really important when drag racing a TR.

At what speed are you running 14.2's?? Sure the engine is running solid? How much psi you pushing on the turbo? Are you at least using drag radials? What psi are you launching at? elevation of where you are located? You can't just expect to run 12's in any car without at least a few of those factors up there being 100%.

Slacker it's running fine, drive it to and from track. Launching at 5#'s. The alt. is around 2500 ft. And i have stock turbo and stock wastegate. I have an adj. wastegate and knock gauge but don't have them on yet. wanted to ask about this before throwing more parts at it

plowboy,

I think you have some good parts there. Just need to tune them all in. More seat time can help with that along with a good scan tool.

I am not sure if that altitude will affect things greatly, but I have a feeling it may.

As an aside, when my car was mostly stock I went from 14.0's down to 13.5's with tuning on the stock chip and race gas.

To run 12's in a 3600+ lb car I think your MPH needs to be about 102-104.......you definately have the parts to go that fast.....

Al, your problem is the gas and boost.

All of the guys running those big numbers run high octane fuel (100 octane and higher) and crank the boost up to at least 20lbs.

You sound like you have all of the parts you need just add the go fast gas and turn up the boost. :D

Then traction will be a major problem. Slicks are the answer here. Tuning this combo should get you into the high 12's, low 13's. yup

Lubrants 93 chip is usually run with 16lbs boost with 93 octane.Set the fuel pressure at 42lbs line off. See how the car runs with that before any other changes. If it knocks then look for problems.

Huh I must be doing somthing wrong then running 94 octain gas and only 17-18 lbs of boost and still turning real low 12's on DR's.

I know what you are saying that he is way low on boost and will also need more traction. But I don't think you need 20 plus boost and 100 octane.

Though it never hurts to have some extra octain to prevent detonation.

Well fellas i went today and bought some 112oct. gas. I'm gonna run it on friday. Is this to much oct.? I've got an ATR adj. wastegate. would ya'll advise turning up the boost without installing my knock gauge? And my wastegate is a 10 turn gate, if i start at 0 will that give me no boost or will it spool like stock? thanks powersix

112oct can support 25lbs of boost with the correct chip. Why waste your money on race gas before you have tires. You need a scantool, boost gauge and knock montior before cranking up the boost past stock level.

Tried and true combo to run 12's, even with a bone stocker (like my 87) :D

Good sticky tires (preferably slicks)
Good race chip (110-112)
Good race gas (no compromises here, needs to be at least 114 pure)
Turn the boost up to 25# (only if above conditions met)
Oh, almost forgot, track's gotta be sticky.

Launch at about 10# or better and hold on.
