Ok, I'm in a little debate with a local DSM guy. He doesn't think that a 450cfm turbo on a car as big as a GN can hit 12's up here 5800ft. I have done all of the spring cleaning and have done all of the basics: hot wired W340, AFPR, engine tie down strap, volt booster, strong turbo/ ic hoses, blocked throttle body coolant lines, removes screen from IC shroud, took out most of the weather stripping at the back of the hood/ bottom of windshield, etc.. I have a grainger valve and am tuning using a boost gauge and a Scan Tool that tells me everything. Would it be feasable to hit 12.99 up here running 22psi or so with stock turbo, race gas (what octane should I look for at the track) , KB Hotflash chip and sticky street radials? I know slicks are the cincher and I may end up with a pair. I have some chaeper rear tires (255/50/15) and when I heat them up they stick good with my stock power levels. Thanks for the help!

I think you can make it with good traction. I believe it has been done by others.

Cool, I'd be happy with a very low 13 to be honest. I'm also using a paper clip, removing the front swaybar and I'm gonna throw some airbags at the rear end too. Thanks Steve!

I see 2 problems #1 your tires are a inch to short. You should have 26inch tires or you will never get the mph's to hit the 12's
#2 KB Hot flash chips are old school. Get something more up to date. A chip from J.Testa, J.Carter. Lubrant, Bailey are all good. You didn't mention if you had a converter. If you do only use unleaded race gas. And the max boost with it will be around 21lbs unless you have alchy injection.

I would recomend using a switch to lockup your converter. I didnt pick up any time at the track with the paperclip. But when I locked the converter at 75mph I got the .2 tenths out of it.
Directions for a lockup switch installation are at www.gnttype.org its very easy to do.

This doesn't have much to do with this thread, but inquiring minds want to know...GN138 said he removed the weatherstripping at the base of the windsheild/hood area, I'm assuming that is too increase airflow into/out of the engine bay. Is this a "free mod" really worth something?

keeps the air under the hood cooler...it's best to remove on the driver's side half so the hot air coming out of the hood does not go right into the cowl vent and into the car...

yeah, as steve pointed out, if you car runs rich or has an exhaust leak, you will smell like gas with this "mod". The previous owner of my t-type cut the center out of the weatherstrip. My wife can tell when i've been driving it by my smell.

Dang...that's why I smell gas here and there. Probably DS header crack. I left a piece of weatherstripping in the middle to keep water away from my coil pack. Still running stock converter and I may be able to borrow a friend's pair of slicks. We'll see what happens.

Justin,

Are you going to be at Bandimere this Friday? I bought my 86 GN last September and this will be my first time racing it or any other car for that matter. I'm also shooting for twelves, but we'll see. I plan on running on alcohol injection with a TA49 set at about 22-23 lbs of boost. I looked on the GNTTYPE.ORG site at their altitude correction table and we'll have to be running the equivilant of low twelves at sea level to hit high twelves at Bandimere. Good luck with the car and maybe I'll see you there.

BigZ: Where do you live? I may have seen you around. Drop me an email at [email protected] I'm not sure if I'm going to Bandi this weekend or not. It's supposed to rain and we need it (unfortunately) for the fires. I'm hitting a dyno with some local DSM guys this Saturday. We're in Broomfield and the dyno is actually in Broomfield too. If you're in the area maybe we could hook up. I've got another friend with a pretty crazy built GN. We're gonna be out running around in his Saturday. Later,

Justin
