My 87 turbo regal is getting poor gas mileage. It runs pretty good, but I don't have any tuning tools. I'm sure it runs rich, because I smell gas sometimes, but it never knocks. Anyway, the drivers side header has a small crack on the middle tube, and it may be letting in extra O2 from outside, causeing the O2 sensor reading to be off. The injectors are green stripe from who knows where, but the previous owner put them in. Any thoughts on the topic?

A thought would be a scanmaster from Ramchargers. The unit will allow you to track 0-2 counts, iac, coolant temps, knock, etc.

Spend a little money now, and reap the benefits later. I don't believe the cracked header would draw oxygewn in, because it's pressurised.

How bad is the mileage? Pull a plug wire at the coil pack, and see if the spark will jump 2-3" to ground. Pull a plug. You should be running ac-44's or the equivelent. 43's are too cold for your application (non racing) and will destroy mileage. 44's at .035 is ok.

And welcome to the board!

It will draw oxygen in only when you release the gas and the scavenging effect occurs. You probably don't smell extra fuel under full throttle, I'm assuming. Under boost conditions it ain't going to happen. Definitely get the headers fixed.

And like Turbo_Timmy said, "Welcome a board!"
forzfed is right. (I was wwwwww, you know
)

Keep it simple, plugs, and wires. I keep an extra 0-2 sensor (AC Delco, purple wire) just to help elliminate it as a source of the problem.

what gas mileage are you getting, exactly? I've seen 15.5mpg at the worst, and lately, 20mpg at the best on the highway. You might not be doing all that bad depending on what you are showing...

I'm getting about 12-15 mpg. I figure that the stock engine should do a little better than that. Any opinions on heated O2 sensors? The GSCA offers one at a reasonable price, would it be worth the little extra $?
yeah I get around 12-15 mpg depending how much I get on the boost.
