Got these on both valve covers....
What was the specific purpose of this design?

Seems to me that a lot of guys were ripping out half of that lower rubber baffle because of the crankcase pressure buildup.

They are for tall valve covers not low stock Buick covers. They would bottom out on the head surface and block breathing.

That's exactly right. I figured that one out on my own after an engine rebuild years ago. I put new, M&A tall valve covers on and the motor kept pushing the dipstick way out of the tube!

A little razor knife surgery on the grommets cured that.

MeanBuick, did you run the push in breathers on both VC? I'm using them on my engine with no problem like yours! The only problem is adding oil and having to remove the insets to do it! Gene

That's interesting...I'll have to keep an eye on things for awhile. By the looks of them, they're obviously not new and there is 18k on the rebuild.
