If you are talking about the module that is screwed to the passenger fender :)

That's an especially *odd* malfunction code, in that it can set very easily. Might try wiggling the module connector, and ecm connectors, clearing the code, and see if it happens again.

I get code 42 errors when I use Direct Scan without a properly shielded cable.

....welp, I was running DS when it set!!

Me too!

I'll get Code 42 sometimes when I floor it, the car will hesitate, then bog and crap.

I pull over, let it idle for a second, turn it off, turn it back on then the code is gone.

Sometimes when i floor it, code 42 will come up, and sometimes it wont.

get the new shielded cable and don't push the plug on too far

I just cut off a piece of tie wrap appropriately sized and stick that in the slot...used to use a sliver of cardboard. :)
