I need a little help with my idle on my 1987 GN. The idle seems to drop off and then come back once in a while. Sometimes the engine will die when it drops off. I'm sure its a sensor of sorts but I have no idea which one. I am running a GM style 4" MAF with the translator plus but running different settings on the translator doesn't help.

an IAC(idle air control) is what basically controlls idle.it is located rite under your inlet pipe on your throttle body.try and take it out and clean it up.may be a little dirty

The IAC is a small electric motor that runs the pintle tip in and out. It has a plastic worm drive and is not very strong. To clean, simply unscrew it, carefully clean the pintle tip and use carb cleaner to clean and flush out the bore it screws into. On reinstall do not over tighten...snug is good. To readjust, drive car up to 40 mph for a few minutes. The computer will reset the counts to the proper position. It may be a bit hard to start and not idle with your foot off the accelerator until you take it for the drive. HTH
