I know this is a lame question, but I got no directions from Santa.

When the cable is pluged into the ECM would the red marker stripe be on the right or left side of the juncture?

There is no magic involved...just get the terminal clean...some scotch brite and lacquer thinner makes it easy.-then don't push the connector all the way to the bottom.

Actually, Santa put a small piece of plastic pipe in the connector so it would not bottom out and cause it not to work. Santa had problems with that in the past and found the cure.

I set up two ECMs with DirectScan this past fall. Bother were very easy to do and probably only took about 30-40 minutes each.

To remove the coating on the board, here's what I used:
- Aircraft paint remover.
- Starting fluid.
- A paint scraper.
- Q-tips.

I sprayed the paint remover on a flat blade paint scraper (looks like a real wide flat screwdriver) and applied it that way to the board. I let it sit for a minute or two then scraped it off with a razor blade and the paint scraper. After about two applications, I then cleaned the board with a couple of q-tips dipped in the starting fluid.

Like I said, both ECMs and DirectScan setups have worked perfect.

Hope this helps.
-Banning.
