I was wondering if you guys could help me, why are 84/85 motors so undesirable? Is it because they're not intercooled. Isn't the block and heads the same as a 86/87? Has anyone used a 85 block and put the same features as a 86/87 ie intercooler,headers,turbo computer etc?

I think you mean a tap for the turbo drain return. Not a big deal, as it cost me $12 to have the 1/2NPT drilled and tapped in my 4.1 (which also doesn't have an oil return)

Never owned an '85, but they do look to be a pain to work on. If you were trying to convert one over to '86-'87 status, I think it would be a waste of time. You will get nickle and dimed on all the parts. Just like I am getting nailed on all these trinkets I need to complete this 4.1. Lot's of stuff is different. Throttle body, electric fan, idler pulley, ECM, no hydro-boost brakes, alternator, serp belt, oil pan, turbo, headers, crossover, intake, not to mention hard to find stuff like coil pack brackets, TV cable brackets.. ect.. MAF blah, blah. I am sure there are a ton of other parts that are needed that I can't even think of. Believe it or not, buying a complete '86-'87 motor from oil pan to turbo with ECM and wiring for $2k is a deal.

84 - 85 = slow' broken down & undesirable' that = ZaP
86 = BEST" 87 better than 84 - 85 !
