CAN I INSTALL A GIRDLE MYSELF WITHOUT A LINE HONE?

TRYING TO PINCH PENNIES PEOPLE. I WANT TO STRENGTHEN MY BOTTOM END WITHOUT HAVING TO DISASSEMBLE MOTOR COMPLETELY (ROTATING ASSEMBLY) AND WITHOUT IT GOING TO THE MACHINE SHOP. I PLAN ON SENDING MY MAIN CAPS TO RJC FOR MACHINING, THEN RE ASSEMBLING WITH MAIN STUDS. OPINIONS? I'D RATHER uzi MYSELF THAN PAY 1000-2000 BUCKS TO A SHOP FOR MACHINE WORK.

Should not cost anything like that for machine work! Not even close..but,

I understand that quite a few have been done without a line hone successfully. Jason is one of the straight shooters in this business and I would not be afraid to follow his guidance.

I got away with it

I checked my mains with a bore gauge after install and all was fine so bolted it all back together

If the cap index is not cut and the cut on the top of the caps are flat I dont see why it would affect it
Some people may get away with it, but I would never try it. Most of the time the pan rail isn't square with the crankshaft centerline. Additionally, we weld the spacers to the #4 cap. I have to think the heat would distort it some (I have never checked). Does Jason say it's OK to install without an aline hone?
checking it is the important step

If you dont have the tools to measure the bores most any good machine shop will measure them and let you know if it really needs it or not.
You should always at least check the main bores 100%!! It shouldn't run that much to setup the girdle either. Good luck! Frank :)
