tonite i noticed my battery was leaking, well kinda oozing out the top.
my biggest concern is the trunk carpet, so is this battery on its way out?
or is there something i can do?

Most likely it is going but that is a sign of overcharging as well.

check the charging voltage and see what it is hitting....

a quick and easy way to tell if it is charging is to stick a metal tool (aka. screwdriver, wrench, etc.) behind the alternator, near the center. if it is working properly, the alternator will be like a magnet and pull on the metal tool. Alternators and generators act like a electromagnet.
Also check the metal post terminal with a voltmeter to see if it is putting out 13.8v or higher, if it is only 12v, your regulator is done, you will still get a charge, but lights and accessories will be weak.
It sounds like the altornator is overcharging it though, which voltage will be really high on that terminal post.

Should not be exceeding 14.8 in my opinion..

you don't have some kind of volt booster on it, do you?

sometimes they get screwy and put out too much....put a meter on the back of the alternator and see what is coming out in normal use.

those voltages are fine....on the code 51, you might clean the contacts on the chip and replug it.
