aluminum brake drums???

1944 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  PRSRIZD_V6
Have an 86 GN with the aluminum brake drums and bumpers. I would like to keep the drums but can not be turned again.

Is there another vehicle drum I can use?

Can my drums be relined?

Thanks for you time.

I would think just about any G body from the early 80's up should fit. Check the bone yards and the drums with no rust should be what your looking for.

Look on late 80's Firebirds, Trans Am's and Caprices. Some of them came with Aluminum drums and they are the same drum.
thanks guys

Here is a list of cars I copied from the gnttype mailing list years ago.

83-84 Blazer/Jimmy S/T models
80-84 Buick LeSaber 85 RWD
78-81 Buick Century
81-87 Buick Regal
81-85 Buick Riviera
82-92 Chev Camero
86-89 Chev full size passanger cars
78-81 Chev Malibu
78-88 Chev Monte Carlo
82-84 Chev S10/S15
80-85 Olds Delta 88
78-82 Olds Cutlass
80-81 Pont Bonneville
83-85 Pont Bonneville
86 Pont Parisienne
82-92 Pont Firebird
78-85 Pont LeMans
78-88 GMC Sprint/El Camino

The drums are 9.50" outside diameter, 2" width. You must check the steel liner because the liner can not take a lot of rework, the steel drums weigh 14 lbs and the aluminum weigh 9 lbs

I hope that helps out

I could be mistaken, but I believe that the delta 88 and other B-bodies had a 5X5" bolt pattern.
