okay guys. I am not A/C expert, but i just had my A/C charged up with some R12 refrigerent, no leaks in the system, charged right to 3.25 lbs as the system said. One thing I notice is that the compressor cycles when on defrost mode. If that normal? Also on normal or max, the compressor kicks out sometimes. not often, but like once every few mins. When giving it gas, it stays engadged. Is that normal operation for these cars? Any insight would realy help me understand the system better. Thanks.

The AC runs in defrost, so the evaporator will "dry" the air coming in. In the early '70s, there was an "Economy" switch, so that you could run the defrost without it. I wish they still had that switch, but I don't want it bad enough to rig one, even though it would be pretty simple. If I lived somewhere really cold, I might do it. When the air outside is below freezing, the windshield is icing, you don't need the AC.
