Our GN's 1st owner ignored all the notices from Buick re: the various recalls, so none have been done to this point. Thank God there is no limit on them!

We're going to take the GN to a local Buick dealer very soon, so the essential question is:

What were ALL the various recalls? What parts are replaced under the several recalls?

There's no doubt that some seriously detailed edification will likely be needed when the GN is presented to the 21 year-old Service Manager, so here's a MAJOR thanks-in-advance!!

Well I hope this helps, I just went through the same thing here in Canada trying to find out what the recalls were and what was outstanding on our car. I first went to this website

it lists Recalls and Technical service bulletins. I then called GM Customer service (make sure you have your VIN# handy) and they searched for me to find out what recalls, if any, were outstanding on our car. There are 2 numbers you can try

or the number I called was GM Customer Service
1-800-263-3777 now, I don't know if that is for both Canada and US or just Canada, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Check the color of your pressure swith on your power master brake unit. If it is black it needs to be replaced with the gray one(recall). If not you could have power brake failure. I took mine in and had it replaced, my GM dealer wasn't real happy to do the recall, but they did.

Yep, it's still black.

The original owner said he didn't want anyone touching the car except himself, so none of the recalls were ever done.

Like your dealer, our local Buick dealer may not be ecstatic about doing the "old" recall work. Just don't want any "lip" about it, so hope to go in with enough data & documentation so as to clear-up any confusion they're likely going to have on such an "old" car/recall.

Really don't know what their problem might be...GM reimburses the dealer for recall work, correct?

Yes, they get paid, but not near as much as they would make if that technician doing the warranty work was working on non-warranty issues..

Phuk 'em, it's what they are there for, IMHO..

When I got my GN, the brakes failed twice becuase they said it was the master, possibly the piston wearing down the cylinder. I paid $1,000 for a f*ckin' new master assembly. I didn't think the recall was still valid. If it is, I'm going to choke that fat motherf*cker at the dealer. Where is this pressure switch located?

I forgot to mention that the brake pedal would stay down and trip the brake lights all the time, I thought it was just the accumulator.

It's our understanding that all recalls for reasons of safety have no time limit.

The 2 items in the brake system still eligible (if not done previously) are the pressure switch and the combination valve.

If your pressure switch is black, and your combo valve is cast iron, 99% likelihood they haven't yet been done.

The info in the second post in this thread has 2 numbers to call to determine by your VIN # whether or not GM has a record of your vehicle ever having received any recall work.

I do sorta dread taking it in to our "elitist" swank Park Avenue-oriented Buick/Beemer dealer & pursuing the matter with the 21 y.o. Service Manager, but...right's right, eh?

Still trying to decide whether or not to get the upgraded chip from the 1992 recall...anyone know if it provided any performance advantage over the original? If not, forget it. yup

I'd forget about the chip.
I believe it was replaced with a new chip so that the cars would pass emissions or something.
Plus. They prolly were programed to shut the car down at a lower speed.
Don't quote me on it though.
