You have got to be S***ing me!

I swear, this engine build is going to kill me yet. Is it too much to as for things to be done right the first time? I picked up my stuff up last week and finally had a chance to take a good look at everything tonight. I'm sorry I did. Looking at the pan rail to girdle gap from the side I can tell something wasn't right. So out come the feeler gauges. Instead of having .005 all the way around the girdle, I have 0 in one corner, .36 in another and .31 in another, I gave up measuring there. next I took off the girdle and found some more surprises. The 2 new rear cap spacers, and 4 shim packs that I bought new from RJC and sent to him were nowhere to be found. Instead I have spring shims holding the girdle up off of the caps with nothing supporting the centers of the caps. On top of that he bored the 2 stud holes for #4 main all the way through the girdle so the cap could be bolted down without the spacers. Therefore making it impossible to install the girdle properly even if I wanted to. The top of the rear main cap is sitting about .003 above the rest of the pan rail. To top it all off, he swapped the 60,000 mile NA 109 block I gave him for a SG1 block that I have no clue about the history of. One of the freeze plugs is even installed crooked!

I usually don't get worked up about things, but I'm so pissed right now I don't even know where start trying to fix this mess.

It was a highly reccominded builder. Needless to say, I'm not impressed with his work at the moment. I will be discussing this with him later today to try and come to a solution. At this point and I think I'd rather have my unmachined block and money back. I'd call the crank work payment for the trashed girdle.

Maan that sucks!! I don't know how many times I've been in the same boat with many other things, although a certain transmission had me pretty steamed.

I hope you get things worked out!

Charles, Im sorry to see this. Ive been waiting to see your car back on the roads for a while. Cant believe this happened to you. I cant offer you any advice on the situation, as Ive never had any work done by him. Dont think I'd want to after seeing the pics.

I just hope mine stays together a good long while.

Sean is prob right maybe a should have waited, I was so ticked I had to vent somewere. (Posts edited of names until this is resolved)
Anyway, He says he is going to fix it so we'll see how it goes. The fact that so many people swear by him is why I went there in the first place.
I also called RJC about no longer being able to tie in the rear cap to the girdle. he says I should be OK, it's not a good as it was but still way stronger than just caps. The two center caps are where the girdle really adds strength.
I also May bring it to the welder up the street and have her (yes her, and she's damn good too. ) tig or laser in two pieces of matching steel and machine it flat on the block side to rebuild the girdle.

Damn, I don't even know what to say Charles. That sucks. Hopefully "he" will make it right. Maybe you shulda taken me up on my offer to bring my two friends, Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson, down there for a visit...
Anyway, hope it all turns out ok inthe end. I totally understand your needing a place to vent.
Who is the welder down the street and why are you holding out on such vital information?
