Angry A Sad Day for the "F" Body

PRODUCTION OF CAMARO AND FIREBIRD CONCLUDES TODAY .... This morning marks the end of an era for high-performance sports car enthusiasts. Workers at the Ste. Therese, Quebec plant will build the last Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird before the end of the day.

Since the vehicles first appeared on streets in 1967, more than 4,750,000 Camaros and 2,600,000 Firebirds were produced. For the 2002 model year, GM celebrated the 35th anniversary of both cars with special limited editions.

Death of the F-Body, but I doubt if it's the death of the Firebird\Camaro...but then we are talking about GM.

Unhappy

It was quite sad watching the news showing the last shift and all the workers. It's the end of an era. It's sad to see the cars go and even worse to see all those people on the unemployment line. Some of the workers even said they would not buy an other GM. Can't blame them, lots of emotion there!

I've been visiting the dealerships lately and the three that I've been to have no more Z28s or T/As. I did see a convertible Camaro, though. Yeeeesh, you should hear the "last one" pitches. I wasn't even looking for an F body!

A dealer up here has a convert Firebird, yellow with the mag wheels. It is still on the showroom floor, and I expect it will stay! GM is going to have to come up with something soon to fill the void.....What is next, the Vette! GM Blows>>>

Many times I'm sorry GM ever invented the Vette. They are so afraid that something else will outperform it that they have killed performance vehicles for the other divisions in their own company!

Doesn't this sound familiar? Like in the 70's when everyone dropped the performance from everything and switched to econo-boxes. GM seems to be focousing on lowering fleet fuel mileage and making these little ugly cars that yes get wicked gas mileage but have little power.
I think that in 10-15 years just as before we will see a re-birth of the rear wheel drive high performance cars.

It is very sad to see these cars discontinued not only for what they stand for but for the what, 1400 workers who just lost their jobs
