Never Forget 9/11

This is a reprint of my post from a few years ago

I live downwind of the WTC and the smoke, debris and the smell of jet fuel and death was covering my neighborhood. My cars had a 1/4 inch of ash on them. It was a morning I'll never forget. Many Fire and Policemen who were killed lived in my area. The area churches and funeral homes were busy for months to follow. One neighbor friend (fireman) with a family of 4 was killed. I can see the NY skyline every time I drive home and with the towers missing it will never be the same...

Same here. I saw the second plane hit first hand while I was on the train crossing the Manhattan Bridge. A few ladies passed out right there and I had to help them off at the next stop as MTA cut all service. It was my first year of college and my first time really having to go into the city on a normal basis. I was stuck in the city for 7 hours with no food, no water, no family, no nothing. Walked from 59th st and 10th ave over the Williamsburg bridge. There was ash on my car, friends have memo's from Cantor Fitzgerald that landed in their backyard. I will never ever forget this in my life and it was one of the main reasons I left the city. Not that I was "scared" but I just want to not worry about if I will be stuck in the city again.

Yes never forget that day and those that were lost, everytime I drive up the turnpike and look to the right and the towers are not there, it is like a bad dream that you hope you will wake up from but it's not. Everytime I see footage of that day I just say "I can't believe that happened".

My cousin lost his girlfriend of 11 years that day and not a trace of her were found........sad and very sad for all the families.

Another day that will live in infamy forever, and, no one will ever convince me that we either deserved this, or, that our actions caused this.

I hope that our nation has the guts and the determination to finish this war.

I spent 5 years working in Manhattan, taking the Path train from Newark to the WTC, every day. My wife and I also loved the Windows on the World Restaurant and ate there several times. I will never forget that day it went down.

I did something recently about the 9/11 that helped out a friend....It was small, but it was something...

At the NY Giants game last week in the Meadowlands, they brought in a huge steel girder that is going into the new World Trade Center. Anyone at the game, that wanted to donate a few dollars to a cause that supports the family's left behind, could sign their name on the steel girder.

A guy that works for me lost a cousin on that day, as he worked in the WTC. They were close, and he talked about it for a while. So last week, I signed his cousins name on the girder, took a picture of his name on the steel girder as well as some other shots, and emailed him the pictures. I also gave him the commerative Pen (which they let me keep). He in turn gave all that to the family.

I will also not ever forget that day. I was working building a runway at the airport in Toronto and it wasn't very long after the first plane hit that I tuned into Howard Stern to hear what was going on because I knew he was close by and would be covering it all. What a sad, sad day it was.

I remember seeing it on the news early that morning,I was going to work and I thought it was a movie. Seemed like one. I remember nobody knowing what the hell was going on, and then in my car on the freeway, which was gridlocked, I was listening to Howard Stern because he was reporting first hand what was going on. That's when the towers fell. We closed the shop and I couldn't wait to get home and listen to the President. I bought an American flag at the liquor store and taped it in the back window on my GN.

I know I will never forget that day. My sister worked on Rector street and left the minut the first plane hit. She walked all the way home to the upper eastside. I remember my brother inlaw and I going to meet her and walk back w m sister. The streets were dead. Everything was closed. ALot of ppl were out but there was no noise. It was really strange.. It was almost like a movie, but then I looked down second ave and saw 2 building smoking, then later I saw nothing. Its really crazy to think about it but whats even crazier is their isnt a memorial yet.. Watching anything remotely related to that day gives me a big lump in my throat. NEVER FORGET!!! 9/11

I live a few blocks from the Long Island Expressway (495) traveled by 100,000s of cars a day.

That evening my wife and I went to an overpass to look towards the city skyline....I told her...."You'll never see this ever again in our lifetime"....not one car to be seen on the L.I.E.

Very sad to see those buildings missing from the skyline.
