Thumbs down A$$hole Cop

This cop should get fired and do some time. Cop Shoving Cyclist - Google Video

Rookie cop caught on video pushing bike rider
BY ROCCO PARASCANDOLA

rocco.parascandola@newsday.com

July 29, 2008

A rookie cop faces almost certain dismissal after he was caught on video sending a bicyclist sprawling with a vicious and seemingly unprovoked shoulder check, police sources said yesterday.

Officer Patrick Pogan, 23, who has been on patrol in the Midtown South Precinct for less than a month, looks like an NFL cornerback shoving a receiver out of bounds in the video, which was filmed in Times Square during Friday's Critical Mass bike ride and posted anonymously on YouTube.

His target, Christopher Long, 29, managed to avoid serious injury, but was arrested and charged with attempted assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Long, court papers said, wove his bicycle in and out of the center lane on Seventh Avenue, disrupting traffic, then drove right into Pogan's body.

The video doesn't show any cars inconvenienced by Long, just Long trying to avoid Pogan as the young officer apparently singles him out and lowers the boom, sending the Hoboken resident off his bike and onto the sidewalk in front of dozens of witnesses.

"He was body-slammed," said Craig Radhuber, 54, who was riding his bike behind Long.

"I was so angry. I was ready to jump on the police officer. ... This was totally uncalled-for."

Long, according to court papers, did have a few choice words for Pogan and other officers, telling them: "You are pawns in the game - I'm gonna have your job."

Long was released without bail and would not comment, nor would his lawyer.

The New York Police Department said the officer was placed on modified duty as a result of an investigation by Internal Affairs

It's a-holes like him who ruin it for the rest of the good cops, people can only take so much, once someone is being abuse'd , all is fair and then he write's a false police report :rant, this the same type of cop that will beat you up or shoot you and say you attacked him. they need to let this bad apple go find another job.

I bet he wouldn't take down a motorcyclist like that, and live to be put on desk duty.

No a bicycle rider but if I were a bystander I think I would have came after the cop myself.

The cop doesn't signal the rider to stop at all?

Now that this is on the internet he's toast.

Bye-bye job, hello lawsuit........

Theres got to be more to that story, cops just don't body slam citizens for no reason. Maybe they were trying to stop that particular guy for something else, maybe he spit on the cop or verbally assulted the cop which we wouldn't be able to see in the video. Who knows.

Well, while I know where your coming from, I do have history with this. This kid became a cop for one reason. He is a young punk 23 year old kid who wanted a gun. It is a huge problem in NY with these young idiots. I know many of them which is why I know that this idiot was probably not provoked other then by his ego. They will just about let anybody become a cop in NYC.

I bet a 35 year old cop wouldn't do that. Always the younger ones trying to make a name for themselves! I hate Young cops. The older ones are usually fair with you.

A 35 yr old cop would have shot his tires out As said this cop was on the a job a few weeks. He does't have years of built up anger yet. Get him out before his kills innocent people. Make him a street cleaner and push a broom not bikes

Sorry but the cyclist had it coming. He was part of a group of cyclists who's only achievement in life is to ride through the city as a group to disrupt traffic to 'raise awareness' for what ever issue/topic . Traffic is bad enough in the city and there's a good chance that they even cause grief for emergency vehicles trying to get to a call. I have a hard time believing that the group even stopped for red lights, but should i run one of them over while going through a green light i'll be sued for life. There's an article in the post outlining how many pedestrians are hurt and killed by cyclists in the city every year.
We dont see what might of happened before the cyclist came into the video. Life is tough enough for the NYPD, they dont need a bunch of tree huggers on bicycles taking up any of their time. Sorry Ed, but i have no patience for protesters like this waste of life cyclist who's only goal in life it to protest the issue du'jour on his schwinn .
Hopefully the NY Rangers can draft this cop after he's fired

Well reguardless of what happened in the seconds before the cop took this guy down hard it all comes down to the cop violating department rules and procedures. You can't tell me they taught him that at the academy. And this is why the guy is unemployed. Because he didn't follow the rules.

You know just last week I'm sitting at Starbucks reading the liberal local newspaper Orlando Weekly(do a search, I cant post the links from work) and they have a story on the bad cops of the Orlando PD. I found it quite interesting that a cop could violate your basic rights and not be prosicuted for it. It goes like this. Cop does a bad thing. Internal affairs investigates and finds the cop innocent of the charges but guilty of violating dept policy.Gets slapped on the hand. Now there is a citizens review board that can appeal the IA decission but they have no teeth or power to enforce their decission. Why? Because the cops have a union and the union contract says that no cop can be brought before any charges of the CRB. Hey what's wrong with this picture? I thought everybody had to answer to the Consitution!
