2000 Grand Prix won't give back the key...

Yes, I know that rhymes.

My mother's 2000 Grand Prix GT has been giving her problems with giving back the ignition key. Occasionally it requires several attempts of putting the car back in gear and back to park to give the key back.

Any idea what the common cause is?? Anything easy?

Thanks.

My intrepid did the same thing in the winter when the shifter clicker didn't come all the way out. I just gave it a lil bang from the side and that worked for me.

Happened to an old pontiac ventura we had. We left the key in it, and just layed a towel over the column so no one would see.

Key release solenoid part number 26046984 is a common problem. Do some research on the part number and make sure it fit's your model and problem.

My mom has the same problem with her '99 Regal. I have never had the problem driving her car, but I always push the shifter into park pretty hard. I thought it might be due to the shifter cable stretching, but I will have to look into that solenoid. Thanks.
