| Check Out This ElCamino eBay Motors: Chevrolet : El Camino (item 120262544029 end time May-25-08 18:28:05 PDT) Kind of neat seeing an Indy support vehicle. I've never seen an Indy ElCamino before. Well I have seen this one. Here's what is weird. Many years ago I was looking for pics of a GMC Diablo and I stumbled upon the pic below. I've had it in my documents for a couple of years now. Check out the other pics on the guys eBay auctions. Okay, who admits they bought a Cavalier festival car? WTF! The Corvette is the pace car and Chevy picks the Cavalier for the Festival car. I can remember this time of year. When I lived in Omaha I would take the long way to Bowling Green. Stopping off at the Indy Speedway to check out the musuem and the teams practicing for the Memorial day race. What I remember in 1998 was that all of those Corvette Pace Cars and Festival cars were parked out in a lot outside the track against the street. There was a 10 foot tall chainlink fence keeping them safe. I wanted to get some pics to show the guys at work so I walked up and put my camera lens through the links to snap a pic of the inside of one of the cars. The keys were in there dangling from the ignition. You know I didn't think that neighborhood was all that safe looking. Man wouldn't that have been funny. The OGs running around Indy in stolen Festival cars. I think that was the year some drunk smashed his truck(and brains) against the wall when the guards left the track gate open.

| I'd step over my own mother for that truck. I remember seeing this in the old Choo Choo customs catalog. I was actually going to convert to the SS front end on my 81. Thank God I didn't. But then again, no lighter, no dice. ![]()

I bought my first ElCamino on New Years 78. It was a Black Knight with the 350/auto and not much else for options. I was a celebrity for those last 4 months or so when ever I pulled into the HS parking lot. There were also a few other kids that could afford to buy a new car when they were seniors in HS and most of them worked with me down at the Burger King. I dont think I could afford to do that today. But looking back I can see where I spent at least 50% of my paycheck in car payments so I guess I could do it today if I moved back in and sponged off of mom. I got bored with the BlackKnight so I traded it in a year later on a dark red(carmine) Super Sport loaded down with every option. My dad even liked that truck so much that he bought a 2 tone blue Conquista that same day. If a part would bolt on to it than I did it. Rear sway bar and all of the neat aluminum goodies from a 78 Century Sport Wagon are some that I recall. The aluminum rear bumper reinforcement and radiator support. This was back in 79 so all you peeps who think you're on the leading edge with this stuff today, think again. My biggest disappointment was when I wanted to run the 79 in the Solo2 national championship back than. It wasn't legal. The rules say a maximum of 116 inch wheelbase and the ElCamino is 117". I think they were scared that I was almost as good as a 2nd gen F-body. ![]() I've been trying to talk my wife into trading off the trusty Roadmaster for a ElCamino. She wont do it because of the White Trash stigmatism. Every Monday night I hear that every 5 minutes when My Name Is Earl on. The only thing I have to counter that remark with is ,Kevin Costner drove one in The Bodyguard. Anybody else know of a movie or TV show with a main character ElCamino? ![]() I'll have to post some pics. I found a Diablo at the U-Pull-It and just yesterday they had a ChooChoo conversion sitting in the holding yard. It's a sorry POS and there aint much left to pick off of it when it does go out to into the yard. ![]()

| That link is not very convincing as far as the "con" side of white trash goes. ![]() I almost forgot about the ElCamino scenes in That 70's Show. Hey I got one they forgot. In Robert Plants video for 29 Palms about 30 minutes from the end there is a girl leaning out the side of a 5th gen. And how could I forget Enemy Of The State. Two things I hate to see. An ElCamino blown to bits and Will Smith. ![]()

| Here are some boneyard pics I took a couple of months ago. Pic1&2=This is an 81 Diablo. Painted up in black and silver 78 Corvette Indy Pace Car colors. At first I thought this was just another 82-85 ElCamino but as I looked inside I saw the GMC horn cap and if you squint really hard you can make out the word Diablo on what's left of the dashpad name plate. What a minute. GMC didn't make the Diablo after 1981. Yep somebody hung the 82 -87 front clip on it. The VIN says this was an 81 with a 305. And this was a bench seat truck. Pic 3=This is what's great about hitting the boneyard on the weekend. You can always find at least 2 or 3 G-Bodies in the parking lot. I was saving this pic for a special Donks boneyard story but than I discovered this Cutlass was parked next to a 5th gen.No wonder I have to get up early to get the good parts. I didn't get a good pic of the donk door but it had a mural of the frog from Apple Jacks cereal painted on it. What's up with that? I usually keep score of who and what G-Body is parked in the lots. My fellow white trashers aren't doing too good of a job of keeping these classics on the road. Not compared to the low riders and big wheels crowd anyway. Hmmm? That's funny. You never see Funkmaster Flex or Xibit crawling around the boneyard. Pic 4&5=I dont know if the roof was cut off before it hit the yard or after but this 70 ElCamino had seen better days. I'm guessing this was a 70 as the front clip was a different color than the tub.
