Just spoke to some of the North East crew that are down at the Nats and this is the information that has been passed along. (so don't shoot the messenger)

Lots of rain...hope it clears up so they can get in some races.

This years general turnout has been very poor.

Car show was way down on cars, more than in years past years.(small infield show)

Not many vendors in attendance. (used parts vendors say nobodys buying)

General concensis is that the "current" rise in gas prices has lots of people in a state of shock, and the ''current" economic situation has people affraid to spend.
The GSCA Nats is one of the first "BIG" Buick events of 2008 that has played out during the USAs failing econony and gas crisis. Hopefully we will get used to these times we're in and learn to go with the flow and adjust our priorities so we can continue to enjoy our hobby without disruption.

It ain't the gas prices keeping people away. I went to the NATS one year when gas was $1.14 then all of a sudden $2.80. The place was still packed. Like I stated in another thread; you can't expect to treat the sponsors, owners and members like crap and not expect to drive everyone off. It will not happen in one year, rather a few consecutive years of doing things the wrong way which the results of which we are all seeing now. These cars are over 20 years old. There are a handful of people servicing them. People lose interest. People get older. People move on. To succeed a long term club using those variables you _really_ need to have a strong foundation of a club, making all the right moves, liked by all. We all know it's far from any of that. It ain't the gas prices.

If I lived a couple hours away then I would be there, but I'm not close & I have to agree with most of what Mike said for people like myself not going. We are mostly an older group & I dont belive that gas prices scare away most of us. But if your spending $$$ for a trip, you want to be really satisified with the return on the $$$ spent. I don't think that all the badmouthing over the years about their club is helping their cause. I went in 92 but its pretty far for us Canucks. Especially when other events are popping up within an 8 hour drive.

Altho, guess we have to see how the other events actually do this year??
Maybe they will suffer as well? I hope not! We just dont have the numbers the bigger Clubs have, so we have to participate before the events are gone for good!
That would be a shame!

The replies I have seen and the general attitude of "those in charge" (displayed here and on other Buick Boards) is enough to keep me away, even if I wanted to go, which I don't. Just my curmudgeonly opinion.

I heard that Yardley had a bigger car show last weekend in his backyard than they had at the GSCA Nationals.
