I'm waiting for the Diesel 3 series to show up here. They are AWESOME cars, after driving a few of them at Auto X's over the years I'm sold. They rock.

I would love a new Twin Turbo 335

I drive a 91 Buick Riviera, any of them look like a substantial step up to me.

I think BMWs are one of the greatest cars you can own ...

...as long as it's under warranty! After that, get out the wallet!

Under powered and gets worse gas mileage. What am I missing here? Other than the G8 has an extra set of doors.
We only had 245HP with a 3.8 V6, from the factory. And while the numbers aren't there, it's 500+ pounds lighter as well.

Performance is about equal, Pontiac as tested 10k cheaper.
I'd still rather have a BMW over a G8. Now, being a hypocrite, I've seen the new G8/El Camino ripoff which is tugging at my heart strings. I hope someone makes Chevy El Camino badges to replace this Pontiac nonsense. And while I'd love to buy American, I wonder if this G8 body and motor are being imported too?

I think in all reality cars and manufacturers are just blurring into each other anyway. I've seen new Chevy blocks stamped 'Hecho en Mexico' and I've gotten factory Nissan brakes stamped 'Made in USA.' I feel the term 'domestic' is more about branding than actual products.

My main complaint about the BMW's, and in particular this 1 series. It's base price of 34K+. That plus a list of options a yard long. You have to option anything and everything you want to put on/in it. Cranks the price into the stratosphere!!

Just did a "build your own" on their website, and equiping (or trying to) it similar to my present car, it came out to over $43,000.. Sorry, it may be a fun little (and I mean little) hotrod, but you can do better elsewhere and not get taken to the cleaners at the same time.

i agree 100% with dave. the g8 is just diffrent. all that power and it runs on 87. also when its out of the factory warr. you can still work on it yourself if need be. if you want something fun to drive, luxury and decent gas milage i strongly sugest the audi a4. very reliable, quick, and awd if need be. also you can get one very nicely optioned for 34k.

I retract my comment on the price. I have my eyes on a G8 GXP!

And those just happen to be the best damn blocks to build a motor with. Do a search. The "claimers" swear by them. They are thicker castings. Really bits and pieces off of cars aren't really a fair comparison. If it wasn't for Mexico than you wouldn't have the Avalanche,HHR,Rendezvous,Aztek and some Cavaliers to poke fun at. Aint no way the General could build them up here for the prices they sell them at. What I cant figure out is with all of this NAFTA and immigration BS going on why none of the car makers have named a car the Alamo? If those crazy Texicans had won that battle we wouldn't be in this mess today.

You know there's a conspiracy going on today. Us real Americans haven't been able to buy anything with a SBC in it since 2002 but if you're one of those other Americans(i.e. Mexican) you can still buy a new Silverado with a SBC. You mean to tell me that GM thinks the 3rd world isn't ready for real technology? Of course I can read between the lines and this tells me that a LSX motor cant go for a gazillion miles without an oil and filter change.

A few weeks ago my wife and I went to CarMax and test drove a BWM 325i and a Porsche Boxster. We were just curious about a car for her in case her car dies. She deserves a nice car, so we thought we'd take a look.

Criteria: car must be stick shift, either German or American and be halfway sporty.

Test drove the BMW with 50k on the odo. Drove really nice. Smooth clutch. Great options. Only problem I picked up right away was the sunroof was acting goofy and wouldn't close properly. Not a big deal, but something I picked up on.

Test drove the Porsche with 60k on the odo. Nice handling. Reasonable for day-to-day. Clutch was a little more finicky, but not a pain to drive. Top worked well. Seemed kind of spartan on features and options. Noticed CHECK ENGINE LIGHT was on. UH OH.

Not trying to knock German cars, but I'm just adding these observations to this thread. The problems with both cars had me seeing $$$.
