How do you tell someone they SMELL really bad?

I had a Indian women (India) work for me and all the co-workers complained about the smell. I took it up with our HR dept and they said nothing can be done. It's part of her culture and beliefs to bath once a year on some river. Other then that he can be spoken to by management and be sent to see a doctor.

Isnt that just the Absolute WORST!! I almost PUKED in an elevator at 7am from this one chick! GOD it was GROSS!!!

Also, we have a Tile man that smelled a lot. Finally we all complained to management & made them deal with it. Guy doesnt smell anymore. Still an A-Hole but not a Stinky A-Hole!

he might even know he smells...it is possible...your nose can become de-senstized to certain odors.....he could have a medical condition....had a similar situation with a delivery guy.....it was a medical problem.....he saw his doctor and was prescribed medication....he had really no idea he smelt

Be tactfull. First, is it your job to tell him or can you pass the buck to someone higher up the food chain. Okay if it is your job to tell him than is he married or does he still live at home with mom(another IT joke). Call up the women in his life and tell them about your problem. That way you know if it is beyound his control and you dont make an a$$ out of yourself. You know after awhile everybody gets to be buddies so maybe you can tell him by joking around the water cooler. You know what I mean. There are people you can tell dirty jokes with and than there are those you cant. Go on recon and build up you information before you make your moves.

I have worked with people like that. One thing that I have learned is that some people just dont like to be told how to go about their buisiness. Don't let spite get in the way. Make sure you have the power to hire and fire if he doesn't abide by your rules. You know I have a employee handbook with a paragraph that says I cant stink and I have to keep a professional appearance while I am on company property. That doesn't stop me but those words are written in stone. I have quite a folder where the "book" has been quoted many times on me. Damn lawyers!

Hey if you're such the IT hacker you claim you are why don't you just e-mail him using some trick to hide your true indentity.

I wouldn't come right out and tell him that he smells really bad, as I have no idea how well his olfactory senses are working. I might tell him he stinks, just so he knows I passed 3rd grade grammar.

I'm not kidding, It almost triggers my Gag reflex. Its 100x better today, I dunno if he took a shower or what. I had to stand in his cube for 3 min and I couldn't smell him today until he reached over for a piece a paper then I could smell him.

Its not like yesterday where it trails 50 feet behind him when he walks by. Man that was awful!

I don't have to confront him, I can complain to management but I don't want to be that guy.

Yao Min? Is this guy married? I know people that stink, and I've kind of hinted that something smells a little rotten, no biggie, happens to all of us. Still no response. Other people tell him, nothing. Finally, I just come out and blast the guy infront of everyone. What else can you do? Even that didn't work. Bring a nose plug!

Hey I never said that! We were talking about creating a Gmail account today and sending him an email. He is the email admin so its appropriate.

I just wonder how people like that get hired. This place has a very "startup" mentality. There are no processes in place for anything, thats what we are working on.
