Post How fast are turbo buicks in top speed?

Just wondering how fast a stock turbo buick is in top speed. How fast would a low 12 sec. turbo buick be in top speed?( basic turbo buicks mods with race gas) Thanks for the information.

Not sure how many valuable responses you will get from a question like that. I am sure there are some TurboBuicks guys that will stab it until it can go no faster, but generally *I Think* this crowd will be a little more mature and realize that it's probably not a good idea, let alone safe in a car like this. It's shaped like a brick, has 14year old shocks and was never designed with "Top Speed" in mind. Combine that with a 400hp torque monster motor on race gas, and I guess it will go 150+, before the front end lifts and the car careens out of control. Seriously though..

I bet someone can tell us the MAX MPH in 4th gear lockup, at 5200RPM, with 26.5" tires. Scottie, you out there???

Given those parameters, the theorethical top speed would be about 174.5mph. That is Z06 territory and a mid-12 sec Buick would have about the same power, but aerodynamics and a broken steering wheel would peg the Buick at about 150mph would be my guess also. At 150mph, not only would I not want to be behind the wheel, I would not want to be in the vicinity.

The broken steering wheel? That would be from gripping it so hard

Thanks for the replies guys! The reason that I am asking this question is because I am going to purchase a 87 GN in a few months..as soon as my Z28 is paid for. I have always loved the looks and performance of the Turbo buicks. When my car was stock with bolt ons running 13.3@106, I could beat low 12 second GN's from a roll-my friend's ran a 12.2@111mph-that's was one that I raced. They would stay with me until I hit 4th gear and then I would pull hard up top. When I purchase my GN in a few months I would like to be able to beat new LS1's on the street and stay ahead of them until 120mph or so but I didn't want to go all out. I was going to upgrade the cam, springs, rockers, and turbo/intercooler-eventually but retain the stock bottom end. The Gn I am interested in has 33k on it-stock, so I think thew bottom end should be good. So what do you guys think I will need to beat those LS1's from a roll.
Thanks for the info.

I think you have it backwards...

Upgrade your Turbo/Intercooler first then do the cam. The stock cam will run 10s but of course you wanna upgrade the springs as the stock ones suck

My LS1 doesnt really feel that fast from say 3rd gear on. Put a Turbo on the GN and watch how crazy it pulls in 3rd gear.

In my TTA 3rd is its strongest gear. It just keeps pulling and pulling..

Glad to have another Buick friend aboard. But I must warn you these cars are addictive. There's something about a turbo rush that can't be put in words. In answer to your question I'd feel I was taking an unfair advantage to race someone from a rolling start. They'd have a better chance getting a turbo car out of the hole.
Keep us up on your purchase of a TR.

Top Speed? I have done 140 in mine and had to back down since the front was coming up on me. Still had some throttle.

Stan Davis ran 202 mph at the Silverstate Race in his twin turbo model. He had to do some big aero changes though.

Unhappy

For a stock GN, I think the computer was programmed to cut off at 125mph. (I think).

I am giving that some serious thought. Probably will do that when I'm done with ORR.

You are almost right.
The top speed for a stock gn is 127mph.

Personnally, I've gone 150mph with a new computer and the front of the car was starting to lift up in the air.

A strong 12s car can hit 140 with no problem.

I've got two of those cars.

-87 Turbo T, white, red interior, hign 11s (11.82) with 30 000 miles
-87 Turbo T Limited, black, black interior, high 10s (10.70) with 20 000 miles.

If you want any help with your car, e-mail me at guygn@hotmail.com

My friend, Richie, is turning 8.5x @ 159+ in the 1/4 mile. Except for the brakes & rotors the front end suspension is stock. He runs the outlaw class at the local tracks around Raleigh, NC.
