Angry Government trying to get old cars off the road, Canada & US

So does anyone out there in computer land know what our respective governments are up to with these new laws?
In Canada there already is a proposition (bill C-32) that has apparantly already been passed but is not law yet. Whew!
This law would make it illegal to drive any vehicle older than 1985, which screws me cause my daily driver Monte Carlo is an 83, the GN's an 87 so it's ok for a few years. I know there is a similar bill introduced into the US congress but I don't know the perticulars.
So I invite everyone out there to do some research and respond and maby get involved with an orginization that is working to excempt classic/vintage cars from this stuff.
Check out this website, I believe they refrence both Canadian and US by-laws www.naaaccc.ca

That won't fly. They'd have so many musclecar enthusiasts ready to kill - the same enthusiats who buy high octane gasoline all summer long which is taxed to oblivion. They'd kill too much income. They would never do it. That and the fact that after struggling with fixing our f@cking cars all the time, we're stonger than they are. My group can beat your group up.

You know what Mike, Bill C-32 was enacted on Sept. 14/1999. So we have a little more of a battle ahead of us than we thought.

That just means you guys need a bigger tire iron! Thats pretty messed up! I have an 81' Z28 and love to drive it. That will really get me P-O'd if they try that crap here in the states. I am a hunter and fisherman and respect that they are trying to in some off the wall way to clean up the environment. Well, put a cap on some raw sewage and stop ocean dumping. Why not try there first. Don't even think about takeing our cars away. I would kill for that! I would have no reason to live if they did that. Maybe I could take up knitting or somthing? Yeah, right!

Yea, BooBoo my daily driver is a mint condition 83 Monte Carlo nothing special but a great car. Nothing compaired to the GN mind you.
What these environmantal people need to realize is that of the classic cars are driven so rarely, possibly due to fuel costs that we are such a tiny portion of the emissions that there really is no data pertaning to us.

I wouldn't mind it so much if there were special allowances of some kind for classic, vintage, rare, or otherwise collectible cars. But we know the propaganda says they're targeting badly kept cars which may pose a safety hazard on the road. We know they just wanna get us off th road 'cause of we drive the gas guzzlers. Well sort of, I get good mileage. And it's an '85, so I'm good for now. But what about when they say no cars older than '95? Gotta be active here. Gather the car clubs in your areas and send letters to any/all government-y officials signed by all club members so they get the big picture. When they see how many of us there are they'll think twice.

Maybe they should just start by getting rid of the vehicles that leave such a huge cloud of oil burning smoke behind them that the guy behind can't see where to drive!

I swear the governments were in bed with the car companies to force the public to buy NEW vehicles......it all comes down to the mighty dollar anyway........pretty sad.

If they want to take my car, they can pay for a new replacement then. Let's see....I want something that goes high 12's low 13's, seats five and get 26mpg on the highway.........good luck!

Oh,you know how it works up here. You have to be fresh off the boat for them to pay attention to your concerns. We're not "politically correct" you know.
All the housewives and yuppies are probably screaming right now about those noisy "muscle cars".Probably talking about those "screaming flea" ricers and their noisy fart can exhausts.

I don't know about this! Something just doesn't seem right. I don't think we would have to worry about fighting it too much. You have all the parts distributors that would be losing money. How much money a year is being spent to restore cars. What about body shops, they'll only be used for accidents. Nobody is going to need paint jobs, since your not going to have your car that long. What about Jay Leno, a man with his money, you would think, would surely get involved.

WAKE UP PEOPLE, this bill has already been passed, three frekin years ago. We need to become active while it's still full of loop holes and get classic/vintage cars excempt from this law.

Once it's law it can't be changed. Do you want it to be illegal to drive your own car?

I hate to say it,but you're right. These nimrod piliticians up here will do anything to show the world how we can "lead the way".Empty headed dorks.I wondered why they say around here that if your car is over twenty years old or more, you don't have to have an E test. Now I know.

My Caprice probably weighs 4500 LBs. And it wouldn't be very happy if someone tried to get infront of it and stop it b/c it was too old.

Funny this topic should come up though. My buddy went to buy some stuff at a junk yunkyard for his 85 Topaz and they said "sorry - nothing that OLD here". Wow.. Think our gov't is purposely wokring in conjunction with car companies to quietly make it impossible to drive oldr stuff??

Where do they think everyone is going to get the $$ for these new sh!tboxes they build??
