Getting a cell phone...

Hey y'all,

Both Gina and I are upgrading/updating our phones. Right now, she's got a Samsung flip phone and I have a Motorola RAZR.

My RAZR is dying, and her phone is OK, but could use upgrading.

I tend to like flip-phones, but I'm considering smart phone. She may need a smart phone for her work.

We plan on getting our phones this week. We have Cingular (or AT&T) or whatever they're called this week.

Any suggestions on what phones to look at? What to avoid? Don't want to go cheapy, but not trying to break the budget either.

Thanks. I know there are some cell phone junkies out there.

After running a Cingular store for the last year, and being with them for 8 now... I can say that you're SOL when it comes to a "Smartphone". The only actual smartphones that they had are the 3125 (mine.. and it's AWSOME) and the Nokia N75. The 3125 is discontinued, but the N75 is nice ( I have one of those too )

Are you "SURE" you need a smartphone?

There's some nice phones comming out.. .but if you want a Microsoft OS, or need Smartphone capabilities with a full keyboard, you'll have to go to a full blown PDA (Blackjack, treo, HTC, etc.) But they cost more for the internet access ($40@ month ea.)

The N75 would give you a full browser, and all the calander capabilities.. it's not Microsoft, but is a solid performer. You can get the 'net for $20 on that phone, but you'll loose the full keyboard.

Ask away if you have any questions on any handsets.

Good Luck!

I've been using a Samsung I500 for years now. It's a Palm Smart phone and is tiny. Eventhough it's a few years old, it still has way more functionality than most of my friends brand new phones. Best part is they can be had for about $50 on eGay which means you will not have to resign your contract when you buy a new phone from the provider. Not even sure if it works on your network, if not check out some other Palm phones, they are awesome.

Thanks for the quick answer.

To answer you question, no I don't need a 'smart phone'. But there's a good chance that we may need something like a Blackberry.

If I were to get a Blackberry, I would prefer a QWERTY keyboard.

Thanks.

Check it out for great deals on phones.

Compare Cell Phones & Service - Cingular, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and more.

Thanks.

If you're going with a Blackberry, then go with the Curve. It's been doing VERY well... pretty much universally liked by employees and whomever buys one. Still an extra $30 each month for the BB service though.

For you.... The Razr V3xx has been doing good as well... much better than the original V3.

Stay away from the low end Samsung (A437, or C417).. they're OK, but much better exist.

The Nokia 6126 is nice, but only available at Franchise locations.

Also had very good luck with the Motorola Krzr.

If you have a Rzr now... going with the V3xx or Krzr will let you use the same chargers, and get you into a much nicer phone.

The Samsung Sync is good (My wife has that one) and there's a new A727 "Redhawk"<----- got 2 of those in today, they look nice if you don't want a flip.

hehehehe... got any parts to trade??? Will work for

What's your coverage like up there.. Are you in a 3G market?
