I have a RCA. These ratings I think reflect what the guy at work told me about how many around you are on at any given time. Right before I did that test I got 13.4 so it varies a ton. All that blazing speed does help I guess in the download department

It says on that site 3 free a month. I think I am up to 20 now so that's odd.

A good speedtest web site is www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest . It will test your connection and then tell you what is typical in your area.
DSL is here to stay with 6 meg available in most markets. Cable companies are not in as good as shape as you may think. Internet access is not a profitable business plan. The margins are very thin for both cable and phone companies. You must be able to package all telcom services if you are to survive. The old Bells have a bigger footprint with more products while the cable companies are losing major market share to DTV and the Dish network. IPTV will be a competitor probably in mid 2007, it is being tested and in some areas is already online by the major telcom companies. Ethernet over copper is now being used with great speeds. Once deregulation of the cable companies is a reality the real battle will start.

Verizon has a step up DSL from this that is faster but so far I only think porn would be better with the broadband because everything else seems marginal to me.

Cancelled the Comcast! This seems to be working out for me okay. I don't see any difference really in pages loading. On big files or downloads it is a bit slower but nothing crazy. I also notice it seems like it really depends on the source since even the Comcast was a bit slow at times. Now that I plan on watching more HDTV it doesn't really matter and the $20/mo. saving is pretty cool

I have Cable in my house, and it's been working good:

Speed
4.2 megabits per second

Communications 4.2 megabits per second
Storage 510.5 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2 seconds
Subjective rating Awesome

However: I also went with it for my store... 8mbps by 1mbps... for $125@month, static IP.

Eversince Comcast bought out Time Warner here.. I'll loose connection for 12-30 minutes straight around 2-4 times a day.. randomly. NOT good when your business relys on internet connections.

I've got Embarq comming out to install DSL, Dedicated 6mbps down and 640K up... $95@month. That's getting installed Tuesday.

I'll have my DSL cherry popped on Tuesday Cable is fine for the house, as I'm only online at off peak hours anyway.
