Best way to ship a big item?

What is the best and cheapest way to ship a big item like a trans., engine or both? I bought a trans and its about 5 1/2 hours away. I figured by the time I drive for a day and 2 tanks of gas it may be cheaper to have it shipped. Anyone know what a 200r4 weights?

TIA

Check Greyhound, you can look it up online and get a price quote- they only ship terminal to terminal, so you gotta take it there and someone has to pick it up. I sent a pick up truck front core support (big and heavy) from ne ohio to upper michigan, ups fedex and dhl said it was too big- greyhound shipped it for $35- HTH's

Or save the gray hairs for when you get old and just drive there, see the items you purchased and safely get it home. The packing of those two items either large tupperware bins for the transmission or skids would take some work.
