Computer Help Needed

OK. Here is the deal. I am not one to wander to the less tasteful areas of the internet, but spyware still comes around. I run a pretty tight ship on here. In spite of this I got this WinFixer 2005 thing that infected my computer. I use Ad-Aware SE for me spyware killer or whatever you can call it. It can't seem to get rid of the damn thing. Does anyone know how to get rid of this thing slowing down my internet?

My McAfee antivirus program picked it up a few days ago and got rid of it.
Mine does ad and spyware along with viruses. The stand alone ad and spyware programs Adware SE and Spybot didn't see it

The various linux versions have an operating system that will run directly off a cd. A useful option when surfing the less tasteful areas of the internet. Linux is also less prone to spyware and/or viruses. I used to run a dual-boot setup, but have decided I can live without windows entirely.

Hey Ed Thanks. I have had that damn Winfixer 2005 for several weeks. I have a new laptop with McAfee and I didn't realize you had to "run" the scan. I thought it was like a firewall. Anyway, I scanned it last night and got rid of it. Thanks.

Same here... I had the firewall, but didn't actualy have it "activated". Whoops... also it seems that when I ordered the laptop I didn't realize that when I asked for the McAfee program wasn't all inclusive for all services. Had to make another order for the spyware detector which is seperate from the anti-virus portion. All is well now though.

I run spysweeper about once a week. I am amazed at the infections removed on a regular basis.
