Buick unity

For my first post here in many years, I thought this one would be appropiate. It is a post I made last week on another board before leaving on vacation. I sincerely hope we can "turn the page" and all move on from this point.

As I am no longer affiliated with any Buick message board other that just being a member, my efforts will be directed to the Indy Buick Nationals race program in 2006.

Here is my post from last week:

These people should be happy that we can even get parts or have free message boards. It is clear where this community is headed, go to ET or Atco when there is a Buick event, I had more Turbo cars at my house for a party. .........

........ I am only interested in speaking of fast cars and enjoying the real Buick community ......[end of quote by NJ turbo]

Just wanted to inject my 2 cents as I have been racing and putting together large Buick shows and and racing events before the advent of keyboards. What is happening here in the Buick community?

I have a few opinions, and before I leave for a non-Buick vacation for a change, I would like to leave some thoughts to try and heal this rift.

It seems like generally, most of the negative comments come from a sick attempt at humor. It then becomes a free-for-all, and other pile on the trash. It esclates and gets out of hand.

Other comments or disputes get fired up by non-involved parties who feel it necessary to put in a smart-ass comment which leads the subject in the wrong direction.

These really harmless jokes are taken personally by the "victim" who may have had a bad day or month, and a verbal fight is the result.

I do not know the answer to solving this problem, but maybe the board owners and moderators of at least ALL the Buick board get together and generate a uniform code of conduct. Other ideas welcome.

There is one rule that MUST be enforced. This is personal attacks on all boards. Yes, there are specific laws that address a person that lies or states an untrue fact or comment degrading or shaming a person, can result in legal action. I know all board owners are aware of this and have their own methods of dealing with such public postings.

But when we boil it all down, who are the "troublemakers"? Is it the guy in the lane next to you, the spectator on either side of you in the stands, person standing in line behind you? No, it is the person behind the keyboard.

I attend LOTS of Buick and non-Buick events each year and love talking and dealing with the people there. The events are there for the racers, spectators are there for racing, vendors attend for racers and spectators, so why are we all NOT getting along? Are the ones putting out the crap not attending?

The reason I spend time on the keyboard is to help others with info, stay in touch with friends, exchange and gather ideas, all for my main goal - to have fun with racing!

John left the GSCA because of a differences in operating conditions. He did NOT bash anyone or complain, he just went on to try and achieve his goal a of a bigger, better Buick event, the way he thought would be most appealing to the Buick community.

I say this because this is the type of person we should look up to and follow his example in building unity in the Buick community. Forget the petty bickering, bashing and whatever, then put the effort in making things better, building the enthusiasm and quality in the community.

Usually the majority is quiet, but I see many people now stepping forth to say this is ENOUGH, STOP.

Please, lets continue this trend and have the leaders of the boards, events and associations combine our goals and find the path to unity and friendship, however and with whatever it takes.

I will do whatever necessary to help make this better. If someone has ideas how to make better and unified Buick community, lets hear them. Maybe a person, or persons, could contact board owners and event leaders to co-ordinate a method and plan for a start?

Nick your post is a great start but would have been better if you left that "crock of sh!t" quote from Travis off. I don't want do go into what he has been doing by emails, PM's and phones calls. You and John Chamberlain have been CC'ed and mailed copies of what he has said. We all have a lot to do to make this work. I will call you at home tonight.

Unity is wonderful. Complacency and conformity are not.

There are threads in existence on this board, plain for all to see, that deserve an honest, forthright reply rather than a statement of rightous indignation. That would be a nice start. If needed, a search can be done (but that should not really be necessary), as the archives are all still in existence on this board.

Often, it is not what is said, but rather how it is said that form people opinions of someone.

This Board has served the Buick Community well as it has not tolerated lies, whether started by Board owners, or by vendors.

As a start, perhaps an admission of the lies associated with the FBI B.S. directed at this Board would improve the credibility of future intentions.

I doubt that we shall see much with regard to condoning the lies of other current Board owners, or with regard to keeping silent about those that prey upon the Buick Community-whether vendors or individual scam artists-no matter how hard other Board owners press for censorship.

It is not the Buick Community that is fragmented. It is the few that seek to control the hearts and minds of Buick Consumers by a code of silence that seeks to keep the truth hidden for the benefit of the members of the "Inner Club".

Actions speak louder than words.

Well said Steve.

Speaking for myself I for one will support events with my wallet.

This past weekend for the second year in a row I was a sponsor of the North East Chapter Buick weekend at Englishtown.

Next month I am a sponsor of the Cecil County event put on by the North East Chapter.

In November we will be in attendance racing at the Buick vs Mustang at Atco.

Next year we will support the following events either in the way of sponsorship or racing at or attending:

Buicks at Norwalk
Buick Performance Group in Salem
Buick Horsepower Nationals at Indy
Buick Weekend at Englishtown
Cecil County Buick event.

As a Buick consumer spend your money at the event you like and are most comfortable with and fits your needs........I choose the above events.
