Talking The Ultra94 Price Gouge.

As some of you are aware, probably all of you, we pay a premium for high octane fuels. Fine. Well it has come to my attention that Sunoco has jacked up their surcharge on Ultra94 by another 2 cents/litre. Needless to say in the wake of ever rising gas prices... I wanted some answers.

*Ahem!*

Subject: Justify It.

To who it may concern (That is a laugh! As this is falling on deaf, or at
least ears muffled with insane profit levels),

I want to hear the rationale in the continuous increase in the cost of
Ultra94 gasoline in the province of Ontario.
A 4 cent increase per litre sold in the last, what, two years? Wow...
now I am paying +14 cents per litre over regular.

Garbage.

Good afternoon and thank you for your email. In answer to your question,
our Sunoco Ultra 94 has increased for the cost of the components that
make up Ultra 94 has increased. Please keep in mind that this is a
specially blended gasoline. We do believe that the price of Ultra 94
which is three octane numbers above any other gasoline available at the
pumps, which combines the highest octane for engine performance with
detergency for cleaner engines and ethanol for environmental
performance, is competitive and offers great value. Please do not
hesitate to contact me at either number noted below should you wish to
discuss the many benefits of our Sunoco Ultra 94. In addition, we have
also attached a link for your convenience from our website regarding our
Ultra 94 Celebrate Summer Contest.

I can't keep from laughing... To me it reads like this: The cost of the extra materials over the cost of the already outrageous base product has increased and as such because no one else offers this kind of product we are passing the savings... err... costs along to you, the consumer.

Oh and can I please participate in your little contest? Hello, with these gas prices I can barely afford to leave home, much less "Celebrate Summer".

I think I need to request a chemical/cost break down of just what components made the price rise so dramatically in this fuel. Are they lacing this fuel with steel particulate? Because steel is the only industry (next to crude oil) that has seen such a obnoxious rise in price in the last year or so.

What is even worse than that is the Sunoco's around here quit selling 94 and moved there Ultra down to 93 yet they still sell it at 10-12 cents higher than any other 93 octane gas station.

How they stay in buisness is beyond me!

Mike, never start a letter with, "To whom it may concern". No wonder you got a BS response!

What do you pay for 94? I filled the car up last week with 94 and it was .88/liter. I thought that wasn't too bad.

Isn't around 50 cents a litre in gas tax supporting Canada's liberal programs. Crude is high but your taxes are higher. You should be protesting at Parliament not Sunoco.

Damn your sense making self, Ed.

Then doesn't the real question lie in where your 50 cents/litre is going given that you don't have Canadian liberal programs?
