| New Supreme Court Justice As you may know, Sandra Day O'conner has announced her impending retirement. I think a moderate or just right of moderate would sail through confirmation, but Bush said he wants someone far right like Scalia or Thomas, So let's sit back and watch the battle begin...... ![]()

| I wish I were president, I'd nominate judge Milian, and the senate would say "WTF" then shrug and confirm her. That'd be awesome

| No, honestly, he DID say that! not the "far right" part, but he was asked about Justices and he cited Thomas and Scalia.

| Let's see, Thomas and Scalia interpret the Constitution rather than ignoring it and creating laws which have no constitutional basis. In other words, they are not activist judges so they leave law making to the Congress. And, that makes them right wing! Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! ![]()

| easy there . People who are conservative are on the right...usually. so what? I believe that it is a widely held belief that Thomas and Scalia (conservatives) are on the right, and it is also commn belief that Rehnquist is on the right, but not as far as those two. Oconner was on the right-usually. Breyer, Souter, Gynsberg are on the left, and who ar ethe other two????Kenendy and someone I think

| No easy there at all! You want judges that interpret the law in order to obtain what they wish to enact rather than allowing the people to create they laws they wish to live under. Perhaps, it is time for another American Revolution? Strange concept that. Allowing the minority to govern in spite of the will of the people. It ain't right wing or left wing. It is an elitist few that wish to control our lives because we are too dumb to do it ourselves. Maybe it is time to send the tanks into Harvard and other such bastions of the intellectually superior and morally defunct. You should sue your parents for leaving the tv on C-Span when you were a baby and brainwashing you with the Kennedy drivel! ![]()

| SW: Nobody fears the gov't intrusion more than I. The patriot act for instance. The conservatives want to keep the provisions that allow the law enforcement to search without a warrant. The liberal elite argue against it-I'm with them. The Real id. Passed by the conservatives compling a national database on all citizens. The liberal elite are against it-me too. Rove v Wade. The conservatives want to overturn it. The liberal elite want to preserve a woman's right to privacy. Its not pro-life v pro-abortion. Its a anti govt control issue. I'm with the liberal elite again. Gay rights. The liberal elite reject any use of the constitution to limit freedoms. I'm with them. Flag burning amendment- Liberal elite think its convered by the first amendment. Me too. Torture. Albert Gonzalez sanctioned torture. The liberal elite are against it. I think if we torture their guys, they'll toture our guys worse. I think the proof will be in the pudding. I think another O'conner-like justice will be quickly confirmed by the left. I view that as a vote for the status quo. We'll see if we get a nominee that is more to the right of Oconner and Rehnquist. I'd view that as a vote for a big change. Liberals were okay with this court, and would be okay if the next justice was right moderate or left. Conservatives are not okay with this court and I fear do not want a moderate or someone just to the right like Oconner, or firm right like Rehnquist, I fear tehy want something far right. I think the liberal view is more moderate in this case no? Oh and I'm all for people choosing the laws they want to live under. I'm more liberterian on this ( the less laws the better) But I fear the dictartorship of the majority, that's why we have the bill of rights.

| Then let us have supreme court justices that stick to the Constitution and those admendments as established by the people! When we start intervening because the people appear to be wrong, we are presuming a lot...let's let the people correct themselves rather than making decisions based upon political considerations and exagerations of the Kennedys of either political extreme. The Courts cannot play God...just enforce the rules. BTW, I have seen nothing factual that makes me feel that Gonzales sanctioned torture. That was just political rhetoric of a disenchanted minority that cannot accept that it's thoughts are not necessarily the thoughts of the people. I feel that the court should reflect the rights granted in the Constitution rather than what the Left, or the Right wish were in the Document. Therefore candidates with commonsense and no political agenda would be my preference. Selection of judges, at any level, seems to be a critical matter to me. I don't like election or appointment....so what is the alternative?
