Things like this hardly ever seem to go just right, however this is bad. I'm putting this on my local messageboard since we have some people in Biloxi and a local car tuner in Mobile. Maybe someone knows this guy....

I bought my 67 Mustang in Detroit (1200 miles). Had the money wired from my bank to him when I was standing next to him at the bank, but there was a problem with it taking 24 hours to register in the account. So I had to stay in Detroit an extra night.

About the tags.... all states I know of offer a temp permit at the license office. Though he would have to have the title from the bank and signed over to you when you arrive. This whole situation is a mess, and I just know my wife would be tearing into me about it. Hope it works out for ya!

When I bought my Lightning last year, I went to my bank to purchase it. I was already pre-approved for a loan but we also had to do a payoff on the previous owners loan. I was sitting in my bank with the previous owner and with the bank person on the phone with the loan company to make the payoff purchase. You would think banks do this kind of stuff all the time, but the bank person was in over her head and didn't know how to do all the paperwork.

I finally got fed up and wired the money (I didn't really need the loan) and told him I'd drive an hour to pick up the title at his house when the loan company mailed it to him. He wired the payoff money to his loan company the next day and I had the title in 3 days. Of course, I left the Lightning at my house in the meantime.

I was able to meet the guy and had the truck in my posession, and even then I was still edgy until I held the title in my hand. I couldn't imagine doing this long distance.

This has been resolved, I suppose. My money is back in the mail to be via tracking number. It is not ongoing, please don't post it around as if I am still looking for him.

We don't have temp tags here. You can't insure a car unless its currently registered and you can't register a car unless you have the title. Its such a ****ED up process.

You have to take the title to your insurance company, they fill out a form that you take to the registery with the title and then you get plates. If you try to take the car off the road for the winter and turn in the plates they notify your insurance company and your insurance is cancelled! Such a great system!!!! So you have to pay full insurance on a car even if it sits in the garage for 6 months.

#@$@#$ I hate this state.

It's stressful when trying to buy a car based on pics alone. I bought TommyX's '87 Limited that way. Drove to New Jersey with an 8 month pregnant wife, and took a cashiers check with me. If I didn't like the car, I would have kept the check and drove back home. Would have sucked, but I would have done it.
Been there done that. From Detroit to Niagra Falls with trailer and check for an 87 GN. Cars was a not even close to what was listed. Took 13 hours to go to lunch at Niagra Falls and home again. Live and learn I guess

Sorry it didn't work out Mike

Did you pull the trailer by hand? That's like a 3-4 hour drive.

Yup had the check and trailer. It was pulled by a Ram with a HEMI. SWEET

Took about 5 hours drive time one way. But hey I got to take the wife to lunch and walk around Niagra Fall. Not a place to be pulling a car trailer
