Supreme Court 10 Commandments question.

I have to ask because I'm the resident atheist, but part of the decision on the 10 commandment allowed to be posted in public buildings is WHICH ten.

They say there is the Protestant version( the one they want to post) and then the old testament version and maybe other versions that differ.

What's the story? I didn't know there were different ones...

SW please explain

I'm the resident Agnostic, Ed "UlYCYC" Baker is the resident Atheist, you are the resident trouble maker!

I think some guys named Jefferson, Franklin, Adams et. al decided over 200 years ago that mixing religion and government was a bad idea, and I tend to agree with them.

Worship as you choose, but keep religion, and the perception of any favored religions, out of the public sector.

Stop picking on SW!

Oh ya...

free-think-er n. A person who forms opinions about religion on the basis of reason, independently of tradition, authority, or established belief. Freethinkers include atheists, agnostics and rationalists.

No one can be a freethinker who demands conformity to a bible, creed, or messiah. To the freethinker, revelation and faith are invalid, and orthodoxy is no guarantee of truth.

The term free-thinker loosely reminds me of some of Krishnamurti's work. Philosopher whom Bruce Lee got a lot of his ideas from.

That's my knowledge dropping for the day...

No one has ever been hurt by the ten commandments. Come to think of it, they are'nt such a bad set of rules to live by. In fact, several of them are laws. You can't please everybody, so how about stop trying to make everything politically correct, and just please the majority!

That's why I posed the question, right or wrong, good idea or bad, I was just wondering what what we are debating. Apparantly different religions have diferent commandments.

One good reason is because it is unconstitutional, even if the majority is for it. That being said, however, eventually, the majority will always be pleased, because the majority will always retain power.

As for the commandments, you can hang them on your wall, and you can live by them, but in the public arena no set of religious dictates should be favored. I don't want to see anything from the Koran, the Christian Bible or any other religious doctrine in a government setting.

The founding fathers knew it was a bad idea to do so, and would lead to an intolerant, and undoubtedly eventually an unsuccessful government.

I realize that there are zealous Christian groups that would like to dictate the terms of everyones lives, just as the zealous Islamic clerics do, but I, for one, can do without being dictated to by anyone, religious or otherwise.

Practice your religion in your church and home.
