People of Florida, I need your input here.

The Racer X family vacation will be heading to Orlando in March to visit Disneyworld. I don't need any tips on that place, we've been there three times already. What we would like to see is the Kennedy Space Center, if it's worth it. Should we head the rental Taurus over there or not? Is the place worth spending the day over?

All input is much appreciated.

KSC is a great days activity. There is a huge IMAX movie and a ton of stuff to walk around and see. Bring your digital camera and prepare to take some really cool pictures. Some of the rocket engines they have on display outside have turbos the size of trash cans.

If you have the time make sure you go on the tour that takes you out in the bus to the launch pads. When you take that tour they will drive you all over the complex and it's well worth a few extra bucks.

Don't forget the astronaut freeze dried ice cream in the gift shop, that stuff is awesome!

They use to have airboat rentals near Orlando. I remember going out in the swamp lanes chasing alligators. I think it was on Lake Jessup. My kids had a lot of fun and talked more about that then the theme parks. Mike may know more about it since it was 10 or more years ago.

I went there when I was 10-ish and was bored out of my skull. I'd probably be a lot more interested if I went now.

But yeah that freeze-dried ice cream rocks. The "space dots" ice cream is alright, too.

KSC is cool, check it out.

Lake Jessup used to have the highest number of Gators per square ft. of water or something

One of my clients/friend has a nice little airboating service that takes tours out around Lake Jessup. If you want to see some gators this is the place to go!

Check out his web site and book something in advance. He's a one man operation with a really nice airboat.

I have to agree with Mike and George. Another thing BikeWeek is in March and an hours drive north to Daytona. Traffic is bad so you might not want to waste your time unless you've never seen or experienced it. Also Cocoa Beach has IMO the best beaches on the east coast.

Does anyone know how Lake Jessup recovered from the hurricanes and flooding? I go down highway 46 through Geneva about once a week and the water still looks a little higher than normal. It seems like it took months for the St.Johns and Lake Monroe to go back to normal.

I got an interesting Christmas present. One of those introductory flights. I took off from Sanford-Orlando and flew east over Lake Jessup to the edge of the restricted air space by KSC. The view from 2500 feet is amazing. The lake looks like the Everglades and I saw the launch pads from a different perspective. I got to take one guest with me and I spent an entire hour actually flying the plane. It was the best $50 my GF ever spent on me and sure as heck beats anything at DW as far as thrill rides go.
