Rumors of disention at Richs

I heard through the grape vine there seems to be some disagreement between Rich and Artie about there racing program for 2005. And as a result there was a falling out between the two.

From the information gotten from a un-named source it started over Rich thinking about running in the TSO class and Artie wanted to run the Q16 class only.

It got heated enough that Artie picked up all the data logging information from the Motec system and dyno sheet data and walked off.

It was also mentioned that Artie was mad enough and picked up the bead lock rims Rich was testing for the team.

I hope through some dialog things can be worked out between the two. I believe this could hurt the RCA racing program for 2005.

Tell me this ain't true. I would think with all the heat coming there way from all the e-mails from post they have made in the past have also added to this altercation.

Yes Steve. You can see there pictures every day if you go to the post office I'm sure there up at the GSCA's office some place also.

I also would like to see a post from Rich or Arite with the true information on the break up! Enquiring minds want to know! I also heard Artie wanted to take the Jack when he left. This is not good.

I have no official comment. The comments about a split are a rumor and I have nothing to confirm at this point. It is no rumor from people who come around the shop that there is tension in the air. With an expanding business and race program there is always going to be tough times. Over the winter Rich and I were going to break ground on a new facility in Chicago, halfway between the east and west coasts but out of tornado country. We have been testing various combinations on the dyno and made a few runs at Atco and Brainerd over the winter.

Rich's car has always been the #1 car and mine the experimental car. With the consistency and big numbers my car was posting last year I wanted to make a move to have Rich's become the experimental car. About the only time my car broke last year I was trying out come whacky combination that as Chief Tuner I really didn't think was going to work but tried anyway because "the boss" said so. In my opinion the times Rich and I scored big were the times when Rich was playing PR man with the fans and I was tuning alone. Like Jim Oberhoffer says about Connie Kalita, "as long as we can keep Connie from doing something stupid we should be able to win".

Yes, Rich's Custom Auto is thinking about running TSO next year. My car will probably continue to be a Q16 car, maybe I would run a few TSO races to get additional data for the Q16 class. My car is not ideally set up for TSO as it's heavy with a small turbo. Even with the weight break given to T-76 turbo's, my car still weighs heavier than a car with a T-88.

I as always have the Motec and dyno data, this has not changed. As Chief Tuner I naturally have this data. Did I take it out of the shop, yes. It was my data anyway. My car is currently the R&D car so most of the data reflects my car anyway. Besides, if Richie gets his hands on the data he'll probably make a tuning decision and blow the car up. I have no comments on the bead-lock tires other than Richie and I are working something out.

Just to stop additional rumors before they start. I have not been ”inside” the shop in 3 weeks. There are rumors that the locks have been changed on the doors. Since my car and much of my equipment is in there I’m assuming that “my” copy of the new key is in the mail. Maybe Rich can comment on this....

Richie and I have spoken in the past 2 weeks so the lines of communications are open but I have to say not much progress has been made. I may be bringing my car to my personal shop soon but this should not be read into much.

Other rumors flying around.

What is going to happen to the POWERade sponsorship money? I understand someone from the camp has contacted another shop about selling technology? I did not hear if it was data or equptment, and could not get any further comment about it.

I know with the growing pains of a shop a lot of strange things can happen. I would guess another shop in Jersey is jumping up and down at this time with the rumors

I tried to contact Rich on a couple of his phone numbers but all I got was voice mail.

Maybe the photos of Rich rubbing Artie's head while in a head lock were not just in joking around? Both Rich and Artie are strong willed people so does this mean there will be some head butting going on? This could be bad!!! A split between the dynamic duo

They got tired of all the bickering and now hanging in Brooklyn with me.
These fights are hard on everyone. I wonder who's going to get the 2 year supply of Rogaine that Rich has? Arties still has all the Viagra samples. There will be some heated debates going on in NJ this month. I just hope this gets resolved soon. We all don't want Ron to take advantage of this and slip by in the points standings

Neal,

Like I said in my previous post, Rich and I have not spoken in weeks, actually since right after Atco when testing out the new suspension on my "R&D" car. Since Rich and I have not spoken lately the issue of sponsorship money has not been a topic. Some of the sponsorship relations are my doing and some are Rich's. I'm sure Rich and I will work out our difference before the season opener, if not then yes, Rich's Custom Auto will only have one racecar in the 9-second range. If I have to run my car like David Baca as a family sponsored car on a limited race schedule I will. Who knows, there are other shops and companies in the tri-state area that I’m sure would be looking for another car to split a sponsorship with. Who the sponsors follow would be their decision, they can decide that if a split happened. Both Rich and I have been contacted separately on a number of occasions by other racing teams so I’m sure both of will be racing next season regardless if it is on the same team or as opponents.

As for "The Jack", that would stay with Richie. I have my own "Jack Jr." that has already been taken from the shop along with my welder and most of the fabrication stuff. I have the 2 spare dyno motors and 3 transmissions with me as I'm working most with them in the off-season. The 3.8L motors are still at Rich's, if there is a split maybe he can race TSS or build a TSM motor. The technology center would be harder to split up as we both have expended a large amount of time and money on it over the past few years and it's all tightly integrated and is basically useless if split into pieces.

Hopefully Rich will get caught up in the shop enough to return a few phone calls. I'd hope both you and I would be on that list.

Art.

I honestly don't know where the Kit Kat girls are, the shop has been locked up, and maybe that's why Rich isn't returning phone calls....

Which twins, "Twins Turbo" from Full Throttle?
