Ran a new personal best today 7.35@185 at Atco

Hi All,

Just wanted to say I ran a new all time best today 7.35@185 at Atco today. I went down kinda last minute by myself, Artie couldn't make it as he had shoveling to do.

I get down there and hardly a sole is there except the track personnel, it was almost like a track rental and I figured I could get maybe 12 or 13 runs in on the day.

First couple passes were shakedown passes as the track was a little cold and unforgiving, not to mention we were testing our new Goodyear RCA S&IS (Richs Custom Auto Snow & Ice Slicks).

The air musta been really good today and we were finally starting to get a handle on the tires and track conditons and on our 3rd pass netted us a low 8 second pass at 19-20 psi. Thankfully our Maxi-Plant Wheelie Bar was doing her job, planting the car straight and hard upon launch.

I added some more fueling to the FAST and decided to go for broke and take all lines off the wastegate and go for it.

Launching the car at 30psi was quite a hoot and the MPWB slammed into the pad hard and car took off like mad, inbetween trying to shift and keep the car straight and hoping the snow & ice slicks would do their job I swear I think I saw the boost guage go around twice maybe three times. Flashes of light few around me and I was sawing on the wheel as she was a real bucking bronco out there.

Next thing I know I hit the chute right before the traps and I knew it musta been a strong number, well low and behold I pick up the time slip and it reads 7.35@185. I was elated and even the few track officials there were jumping up and down at the cars performance.

The sad part of it was being as tho I was really the only car there as most thought the track wouldn't be open with the snow and all and only myself and the few track officials got to witness the pass. They told me they would back me up on it tho.

I would scan and post the time slip but on the ride back on the NJ Turnpike my pesty passenger side window in the Richs Auto F250 tow vehicle won't stay up and I think the slip along with some other papers and napkins got sucked out of the window.

We now have the 2nd fastest Turbo Buick in the world right after Bill Anderson and in looking at the data from the run at 68 psi of boost the FAST was pulling out about 10% fuel most of the run which means there is certainly more left in her. Who knows maybe a match race with Bill at the Nats may be in order

A performance like that I doubt I will ever be able to do again, I dunno maybe I just got lucky on that run as everything hit on all cyclinders, the FAST was FASTING, the RCA S&IS tires did there job, the MPWB did it's job, I caught the sweet spot of the groove, proper air density and yes maybe just a little luck.

I still can't believe it, it's like a dream come true. What a way to start the year off

Great going Rich. If you sold some of you products the Billy A. he could pass the 6's and go straight to the 5's. It's great to live near royalty

Hey Rich, congrats! The performance tune was really on yesterday. I finally tune a 7-second car and I'm not there to see it. You were starting to drive me nuts with the phone calls on the cell phone as I was shoveling snow. All worth it though. I almost didn't believe it when you were calling me the performance the car was putting out. I'm now looking at the data recorder data. Sure enough you were going 185 as the drive shaft speed indicator doesn't lie. I do think we've got a little more in her. Comparing the RPM's and driveshaft speed I think we are slipping a little. We may not having been bringing in the clutch enough as there was about 7% driveline slippage, we'll have to tighten that a little. The clutch can must have been sparking the whole way with the performance the motor was making at 68psi. You did peak at 71psi but it was only for a few frames. We'll have to put a tighter spring in the wastegate, maybe a 61lb this time.

I was trying to shovel out as fast as I could. I started Saturday night and moved about 18 inches of snow by 11:00. The snow blower was firing on all cylinder. I went out early in the morning, neighbors must have loved me at 4:00am trying to remove the other foot of snow that had fallen in the 5 hours overnight. I had dug the truck and trailer out and was working on the garage when I noticed the snow blower was starting to "shake-rattle-n-roll". I figured I would stay in it because I wanted to go racing and against my better judgment I kept the pedal down. I must have had my Rich "Never Lift" Rezes hat on vs. my usual fAritie Lahaie conservative "You Can Always Make Another Run" hat. I was smoking and starting to dream about the great weather I was going to have racing when all of a sudden I heard a bang, the blower made a hard turn to the left and before I knew it I was in the wall (or at least the bushes). The safety crew was there in a minute (my 3 year old daughter in her snow suit) un-strapping me, putting out the flames and yanking me from the cockpit. In reviewing the data on the super-slow-mo it was clear what all the shaking was about. At about half-driveway the blower started mixing up the cylinder and you could see stuff was starting to fly out the exhaust pipe on the number 1 cylinder. The engine must have been eating its' self up! The little engine knew how badly I wanted to race with Richie so it just kept on destroying itself and giving me it's all. Eventually I dropped the left cylinder as the motor had seen all she could take. Luckily there was not an oil down and the diaper did its job (the wife would have killed me for pushing the blower too hard). Now it's back to the shop to put her on the lift and replace all the parts. I'm sure there is a huge hole in the block as the blower got rocketed off the intake when they finally blew. Burst panel or no burst panel, things are really messed up.

Fantastic run! I think those snowmobile front runners really did the trick! Glad you did not have to add Pop ala Jimmy D to get into the 7's!

Funny thing, Your F.A.S.T only reads up to 30.4#s of boost
How did you get it to read 68#s accurately

Unhappy

I've never had a car that would do 185 even if it were dropped from an airplane.

>>>>Art,
Thanks for the kind words, couldn't have done it without all your welding and fabbing to get car ready.

It certainly sounds like you also had your handful with that bucking bronco of a snowblower. I too can relate...........as I went out late Saturday afternoon to clear some snow with my snowblower and I threw a belt myself.

As Extreme Mo clearly showed as I pulled the ripcord (very similar to the chutes) the cord ripped and my run had to be aborted. Thankfully my neighbor had a replacement chassis that we were able to roll out and turn around within the 75 minute turnaround and we were back clearing snow in no time..........phewwwwwww that was a close one.

We plan on putting the Toro back into the chassis shop this week for repairs so we are ready for the next snow storm.

The Rich's Auto Snowblower will be back.
