i know someone who has one and he says that its great but it sucks gas down like no tomorrow. the thing i hate about dodge is that the quality sucks! i say spend more and get the GM.. you can get a nice z71 with the 5.3 and they are decent on gas and they move pretty well. JMO

Maybe it's bias...maybe it's just fear of things being "different"...but I've done some general maintenance side work on a number of vehicles, including a buddies 98 Ram 1500. To put it nicely, I just don't like how the Dodge trucks are engineered/built. And the interior feels like the front of a bus...obnoxiously large dash, goofy seats... I'll even conceed that Ford is building a better truck than Dogde, but my preference is Chevy/GMC. Hey, if you get new vehicles every few years..I wouldn't anticipate ant real problems with any of them..but if you intend to buy it and drive it into the ground...I wouldn't get into a Dodge for the long haul. You'll probably get alot of feedback like that in here, because most of us are GM fans by default..so take it for what it's worth, I guess...

I have a 2003 4x2 4 door hemi. It's a nice truck but the 20"s in the snow suck. Even the guys with the 4x4s say the same thing. Gas milage is better then my 98 ram 1500 318. I get about 14 mpg city and upto 16.5 highway

Geez... My Lightning gets 13/15... I had a 95 Ram, it was a great truck until it hit about 75K miles and then the interior fell apart and it started getting loose. Although I guess that was 10 model years ago. Like what was said above, if your keeping it for 3-5 years then who cares, go drive them all and buy what you like the best. They all come with a warranty. |

I have a 03 1500 with the Hemi. Mph is around 13 but I only have 2 speeds, WOT and stop. No problems yet 15k miles 18 months of ownership. Beware of the Mopar computer it learns and adjusts after mods. I can tow my Buick with no problems. Try this forum to learn. www.dodgetruckworld.tenmagazines.com

I have a 98 ram 4x4 that is getting ready to flip 100k.Probably one of the best vehicles i have ever owned(that's over 40 now!).One battery is all that has been replaced since the truck was new.Hard to beat that. I have SEVERAL friends with the new ram/hemi set-up.They all love them.I think the quality is just fine If you going to buy a full size truck---gas mileage better not be issue ---on any of them Geoff

I had a 2002 Ram 1500 5.9 4 door, 20" wheels, 4x4. Yes, 12.5mpg was it loaded or not. You had to plan your passes; it doesn't just jump out there like a car, especially at 75mph. Outside of that I could drive 5 hours straight without a backache and the backseat is quite roomy if you're 6 feet or less. I have nothing but good memories, matter of fact I wish I still had it. Put 29K on it in 1.5 years and still was nice as new. One more thing: have the brakes turned at 11,800 miles. Tell the dealer it's pulsating. Brake warranty is 12K period. Manufacturers know their rotors are thin. My '93 T-Bird warped rotors every 10K so it ain't just Dodge. Last edited by JohnLarkin; 01-21-2005 at 10:40 AM. |

The only thing I like about those trucks are the 20" wheels! Why don't they make the Cummins Turbo Deisel an option for the 1500's? Too much POWA!

To raise some hell here,.. I like the way the 2002+ 1500 looks, I would even add the hood scoop. Man they are roomie also. You really gotta love the front end on these things, mean and big. I think with any 4x4 w/4doors your gas milage is going to suck. I have closely been looking at the rams, f-150's, Titans, Tundras, GMC's and Chevy's. Hard to guess where I want to go with them thou.

Honestly I can beat a good friends 2004 Dodge 2wheel drive hemi 4 door with my 2001 Z71 4x4,and kill his gas mileage also. Just to be fair to him we raced 3 out of 5 he beat me once when I was looking for a cd. |

Trans had to be rebuilt and I have been told chevys have weaker transmissions. Interior is cheap looken, keepen together good but cheap. I will be checking out the chevy's. Thx, that is again, why I came here to ask.
