Buick & Tiger Woods

Tiger signs 5-year renewal with Buick
by DOUG FERGUSON, Associated Press

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Tiger Woods will continue to keep Buick on his bag and in his garage, signing a five-year extension Tuesday.

Woods first began representing Buick in 1999. Along with a series of commercials, Woods displays the logo on his golf bag and serves as honorary chairman of the Buick Scramble, the world's largest amateur tournament.

The new deal is believed to be worth more than $40 million over the next five years.

``Tiger has been an invaluable asset to Buick across the marketing spectrum,'' Buick general manager CJ Fraleigh said. ``Tiger ... makes people think differently about Buick.''

Howz about they take that 40 million and make a decent car again??? I mean do people really go out and buy new Buicks because of Tiger I just never saw the connection between golf and cars but apparently there is one

Us old guys that have some money, sometimes anyway, watch golf and we are the kind that buy cars like Big Buicks!

And, it was good to see John Daly win again!

Steve I'm a huge golf fan and I used to golf often before my son was born... BUT I still don't make the connection between Tiger and Buick and I have 3 buicks and 1 buick powered car... I guess it is an "older crowd" kinda thing then... Maybe they should have Jack or Arnold selling Buicks... Golf has been transitioning to a much younger fan base in the last few years... can you imagine how many Vettes they would sell if Tiger was ripping around in one of those.

Yes it was good to see Daly win again. Despite all his problems I always root for him... I saw him at his low point several years back at a PGA tournament in Vancouver when he had that "breakdown"

Now if only Tony Stewart had won the 500 today...

Cool

I was rooting for Tony and John Daly today too.

Amazing power and even better touch around the greens to win the tournament.

I even use his old Tiitanium Drivers and metal woods when I play.

Wilson Invex. Got them cheap in the late 90's when they discontinued them.

Great club.

I think they sold a ton of them when he won the British Open with them.

Good to see that rookie do well also. He drove a good smart race and had a great car.

And this is precisely the problem with GM.

I know that Rome wasn't built in a day and I understand that they're not going to reinvent the Buick brand overnight, but I think that connecting Tiger Woods to the brand is just same old same old. It won't do much to reduce the average Buick buyer's age, that's for sure - Tiger may be youg, but the connection to golf will keep all the old heads coming into the dealerships. And beyond that, it's just a boring campaign.

Kinda like how they're trying to use Harley Earl in some of their commercials. Forget Harley Earl man - it's going right over the heads of 95% of the buying public.

One of these days they'll wake up.

Rich:soapbox:

P.S. I have not seen ONE SINGLE COMMERCIAL for the new GTO. I've seen print ads, but no commercials. You'd think they'd want to do something to announce the return of one of the most famous names in automotive history.

Now, the commercial for the Ford GT40 - did anybody see that? Yeah, it's an exotic car, but THAT'S a car commercial.

Maybe they should stipulate in his contract he actually has to drive a Buick too,any Buick! Those of us who live here in central Florida(homebase for TW) know he drives high end imported sports cars. I dont know about you but I think it is really shallow when someones accepts money and then doesnt endorse the products by actually using them.

I think its even worse if people actually buy products because they see someone else "Using" them.

Oh look Tiger Woods is in a Buick commercial, I'm gonna go look at new Buicks..

Those people deserve a new POS Buick as far as Im concered. heh...

Cool

Yup they should definately be aware and not buy a Buick and end up with a POS Ford.

That'll teach them.

Glad im NOT the only one to noticed this!!
GM wonders why the Mustang sold while the f-bodys didn't. Well if you had ADVERTISED the damn things on TV, maybe you'd have sold more!! Yea, the GTO will probally sell itself, BUT if you want exposer then ADVERTISE!! Typical GM BS. Man, the only division you see advertised these days are the "new" Chevrolet commercials and Caddys of course. Hmmm.......wonder which divisions GM likes more................ Sorry...........done ranting.

I should have made it a little more sarcastic.
TW: You mean if I want your $100M I have to drive an Ultra everywhere I go?
GM: Yes, thats why you are getting $100M.
TW: Well could I take $50M and just drive a Century rental car to the course.
GM:Okay,$100M and your father gets the Ultra but you still have to drive a Regal GS.
TW: Go F! your self, Lexus offered me $10M with no strings!
GMWiping the corner of their mouth) Okay Mr. Woods, here is your 5 year contract, your limo is here to take you to the airport.

BTW The only Camaro commercial I ever saw(circa 98 or 99) was a pretty girl driving the convert with a 3800 V-6. You would think they were marketing it towards fat ugly lesbian 7-11 clerks.
