I thought of the GTA route too. I'm curious, what do you think the final cost would be? Considering motor, fuel management system, fuel requirements and exhaust, it sounds pretty expensive. What about tranny and rear end? I'm sure you would blow the stock rear, no? Perhaps it's because I look at the long blocks in magazines and see 5 digits for the motor alone.

The reality is there are some pretty incredible V8's from GM these days. Not to say our FI V6 wasn't considering how long ago that was!

Interesting - that $6,500 looks dubious even if he did all the work himself but the point is well taken. I have a ZZ4 laying around that I considered doing something with...

Well, for one thing--you could no longer post threads in this section--or Mike would probably have to ban you...

If its what I'm thinking, Car Craft magazine recently did a couple things with those truck engines. Did a head and cam swap and found enormous power gains.

BBS just recently started making the turbo headers again, so that, along with the '749 ECM (Syclone/Typhoon) swap/re-pin and a little tuning (if you nab a '91/'92 model w/'7730 ECM), you'll be good to go. If you get an earlier model, you can always swap to either the EBL or Megasquirt, or simply burn chips for the '7165. Definitely consider lowering the compression some on the ZZ4....

Well, I guess it would be literally--but not technically. Perhaps you could discuss your new vehicle under "Hybrids" orin the "Waiting Room", vs. technical Turbo Trans Am section...

... seriously, is the traffic that busy in here though? Converations like the above are meant to inspire, not to take anything away from the TTA. However, if the topic did pursue, then I would agree, start a build thread in the hybrid section.

I guess it depends on how fast you really want to go and how much time and money you have. If it were my car I would keep the v6 and draw the line somewhere. Considering I was ready to put my 18 deg. Twin Turbo SBC in my street driven Impala SS.

It always cost more than you think!!!!
