700r4 to a 200r4

Thinking about swapping transmissions and going with a 200r4 instead.

My question is the size. Are they a lot smaller then the 700r4? If so, I imagine I'm going to have to change my torque arm and recut my driveshaft. Any recommendations for torque arms? I have a spohn in there right now but not sure it will work with this 200r4. The driveshaft is a dynotech.

Going with a trans-brake also. No one (that i can find) makes a tbrake for a 700r4.

Thanks.

Stick with the 200. The 700 won't hold up as well and the gear spacing sucks for a turbo car. You'll end up with a fast launch and then a bog when it shifts to second. You'll also need an adapter plate to use it.

I am switching to the 200 from the 700.

700 >200

You are using a 3.8 engine, correct? Forget the adapter, the 200r4 will
bolt-up to BOP & Chevy with dual-bolt pattern.
I think that there is someone making the bolt up for torque arm.
New drive shaft is in order as the 700 is longer than the 200.

Yeah, LC2.

I know I won't need the adapter anymore like I did with the 700.

Someone posted a link to Spohn (Spohn Performance :: 1982 - 1992 GM F-Body >> Transmissions & Accessories >> Transmission Swap Crossmembers >> 200-4R Transmission Crossmember) for the 200r4 crossmember. So that helps a lot.

I will maybe just sell the driveshaft, 700r4 transmission, torque converter as a package deal then to help fund the new setup. Looks like I will be swapping out all of it. Finding that 200r4 crossmember was huge though. I did not want to try and hunt for a parted out 89 TTA.

I guess my next question is this,

Who are some of the best out there? Nothing extreme. I have a 500rwhp car that I'm considering switch from my 700r4 to a 200r4 and looking for a good builder. Opinions / personal experience appreciated. Thanks.

CKPerformance is good and I think Lonnie Dyers (sp) is in your area. Great guy and he'll take care of you as well.
